We had a lovely time yesterday on our excursion to Halifax. ๐ŸŒž

We discovered so much about the town and it's history. Special thanks to our tour guide Peter Brears who shared his expert knowledge with us. ๐Ÿ‘

Halifax has some beautiful buildings. We particularly liked the Coffee Cali building with its rose-coloured Tudor-style woodwork. ๐Ÿคฉ

After lunch we headed to the Bankfield Museum which is housed in the Victorian mansion built by Colonel Edward Akroyd in the 1830s.

This coming Wednesday (22nd July, 1pm- 2pm), Steve Burt is giving a talk on Leeds' lively social calendar in the late Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries. Whether you were of the middling sort or from the working classes, there were plenty of ways to enjoy yourself! Dances for the elite at the Assembly Rooms, horse racing meetings on Chapeltown Moor, cricket matches, athletics, gambling and boxing matches all being a feature of the social calendar. Tickets are PAYF.

We had a great time yesterday afternoon at our event ๐’๐ฉ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, ๐‘๐ž๐›๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ข๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐๐ž๐ซ, ๐‹๐ž๐ž๐๐ฌ ๐–๐š๐ฅ๐ค ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐›๐ฒ ๐’๐ก๐š๐ฎ๐ง ๐‚๐จ๐ก๐ž๐ง.

We learnt so much on this โ€˜alternative tourโ€™ of Leeds City Centre. We heard about the connections between the 1819 Peterloo massacre and Leeds, the Farnley Wood Plot of 1663, and the often overlooked histories of the the Chartists, the Suffragettes and conscientious objectors in Leeds.

Thank you Shaun for leading such a fascinating tour.

We had a stall at the Historical and Archaeological Society Fair ๐Ÿ“š

The sun was out once again ๐ŸŒžand in-between speaking to visitors to our stall we were able to enjoy some of the other activities.

We especially enjoyed the weapon demonstrations and the birds of prey display ๐Ÿฆ‰

We can't wait to return next year!
