We were delighted to attend the opening of the newly refurbished paediatric radiotherapy department at St James’s Hospital. Thanks to funding from us and the fantastic Candlelighters team, we’ve been able to revitalise the children’s and teen areas, creating a welcoming, age-appropriate space designed to help young patients feel more at ease throughout their visits.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, the transformation looks fantastic.

In this day of emails, texts and WhatsApp messages, it was nice to receive a handwritten note from the Candlelighters team in Leeds.

It was nice of them to take the time to do this and to thank our small team for the various contributions that the Susie P Charitable Foundation make toward the various support projects that they run with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Happy Friday everyone!

We just wanted to share another lovely letter from the amazing Candlelighters team...

'I am writing to thank you for your most recent grant of £10,000 to support the running costs of The Cottage, and the generous additional £2,200 we received this month to fund 22 Christmas Grants for children on treatment.

(In 2023, 38 families stayed in the Candlelighters Cottage for a total of 887 night)

As always, we are so incredibly grateful to The Susie P Foundation for your continued support. Your kind donation makes such a difference and helps countless families. I’ve enclosed a recent story of one of the families you have helped to support.

As I’m sure you’re seeing across the board it is a difficult time right now as we contend with strained support services to cope with higher demand, and reduced fundraising income. Without supporters such as yourselves, we simply wouldn’t be able to continue our work.

On behalf of all of us here at Candlelighters, thank you once again.

We deeply admire the incredible work Candlelighters does and are so proud to have supported them again this year. Thanks to our donation of £30,000, 112 families have been provided with a home away from home at the Candlighters Cottage over the past three years. This support has allowed families to stay close to their child during their time at Leeds Children's Hospital, making an extremely challenging time a little easier.
