At Real Hope, we prioritise teaching our trainees about their employment rights and responsibilities, including topics such as minimum wage, employment contracts, tax and National Insurance payments and working hours.
Many of our trainees are unfamiliar with their employment rights in the UK, which can leave them more vulnerable to exploitation. Thatโs why weโre passionate about equipping them with the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the workplace and support fair treatment in the workplace.
Payslips are an important part of this. In the UK, employers are generally legally required to provide itemised payslips to employees. These allow employees to check their earnings and deductions and can also serve as proof of income when applying for a loan or mortgage.
Recently, one of our trainees shared that she hadnโt received a payslip in the six months sheโd been working in her job. After learning about her rights during a Real Hope session, she decided to speak to her employer.
She told us:
โAfter the Real Hope session I asked my boss about receiving payslips, and she's since started giving them to me regularly.โ ๐
This is exactly why knowledge matters! Understanding your rights can be the first step towards feeling more confident and empowered at work.
At Real Hope Leeds, weโre proud to help our trainees build the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to take positive steps towards their future. โค๏ธ
