The agenda for our Parish Council meeting at 7:00pm on Tuesday, 11th August is now available to view and download on our website shadwell-parish-council.org. Our normal venue, Shadwell Library, is not available so we will be meeting in Shadwell Methodist Church across the road.

All residents are warmly invited to attend the meeting but, if you are not able to join us, you may still be interested in looking through the agenda because it illustrates the wide range of issues we are involved in on your behalf.

We have not received any new planning applications this month, so the planning committee meeting that usually precedes our main meeting has been cancelled.

Our Library Committee met this week to discuss ongoing maintenance, plan future events and celebrate the continued success of our community cafés.

Pictured are Library Committee members and Parish Councillors Debbie Potter (Chair of the Parish Council and Library Committee), Daljit Sehmi and Denise Trickett, alongside fellow committee members and volunteers. A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers, whose time, enthusiasm and commitment make such a difference to our library and community 📚

Leeds Local Plan Update - you may recall that Leeds City Council consulted on site allocations last summer. The Parish Council (and many of you) responded raising concerns about some or all of the sites put forward by developers.

However, following legislative changes, LCC has had to start the process all over again. Although last summer’s consultation responses will still help shape the new Local Plan, a new consultation has opened which asks the broad topics the Local Plan should cover and how people, communities and organisations should be involved in future consultation stages. It is not a consultation on specific sites, policy options or site allocations. That is likely to follow in November or December.

The Parish Council is responding to the latest consultation but in very broad terms, because it has all been covered before. The critical stage will be the next consultation in late autumn/early winter.

We will continue to monitor the process closely, and will keep residents informed once we know more.

Road Closure - we understand that Main Street is to be closed due to roadworks on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 July from 0930 – 1530 at the Old Brandon Lane/Gateland Lane junctions.

Consequently, during those times the 7S bus service towards Shadwell will follow the normal route to Shadwell Lane then divert via Ring Road and terminate at Birchwood Hill.

Towards Leeds the 7S will start at Birchwood Hill then diverting via Shadwell Lane to resume a normal route.

Pictured is our new village maintenance contractor, Will Neale, inspecting trees in the village. Will got off to a great start in June, and I’m sure you will have appreciated his efforts in helping the SIB volunteers keep the village looking lovely, despite the hot weather. He will now be moving on to clearing undergrowth on the footpaths around Shadwell. That’s a big job, so please don’t expect every path to be cleared immediately!
