So approximately 1.5 billion cows in the world, all burping out methane and pooing a lot! How much is something we asked Matthias at Breeze to help us to calculate, and he got us off to a great start..Thanks Matthias!
Each cow produces on average 30kg of manure per day, so thats about 10 tons a year.
Multiplied by 1.5 billion cows thats a lot of manure....about 15 billion tons!
Worse still it contains nitrous oxide, another powerful greenhouse gas. So rearing cows to satisfy increasing demand for meat uses a lot of land, a lot of water and produces lots of methane and nitrous oxide which contribute to global warming.
Good enough reasons to eat less meat?
