It’s a wrap!

In March 2020, Community Coronavirus Care (CCC) was created in response to the pandemic, to assist those who were isolating and struggling to achieve daily tasks. To date, CCC, now called Local Community Helpers (LCH) has assisted with over 3627 tasks ranging from shopping, prescription collections, signposting and issuing information, food bank referrals and transport. Not to mention, the 130 festive dinners that were delivered when Christmas got cancelled. This would not have been possible without two main factors. Firstly, our amazing volunteers! They manned the phone line, coordinated the tasks, stood in supermarket queues, took parcels to clients, walked the odd dog, and acted as pharmacy delivery drivers. Secondly, the fantastic individuals, companies, and organisations who helped with donations of every description from financial contributions to software, advice, and support to phone lines and equipment. Each and every one are superheroes who came to the need of their community in a time of crisis.

As we begin to see the benefits of life returning to some sense of normal, LCH has seen a gradual decline in requests via our phoneline, with one call or less a month since February 2022. The committee finally feels confident that this is the right time to draw the project to a close. We have worked hard with long-standing clients to find more permanent, sustainable solutions to their needs which has proved beneficial in supporting their independence. At the start of the fundraising effort, we always knew that if any surplus funds were left after the closing of the project, then it was only right for it to be donated to a charity with like-minded objectives within our community, one that closely aligns with the work we have been doing and the people we’ve been helping. As such, it has been donated to Age Concern Mole Valley. They have been caring and supporting vulnerable and isolated older people throughout the district for over 75 years. As an independent local charity, they are responsible for their own funding and services which this donation will help support. For more information on their work visit https://ageconcernmolevalley.org.uk/

Everyone involved, no matter in what context, in Community Coronavirus Care and Local Community Helpers should be extremely proud of what has been achieved and the positive impact it has accomplished during the past two years.
Please see below the breakdown of tasks and the areas that were covered for your interest.

As a committee we wish to pass on our sincere thanks, without our supporters and volunteers, none of it would have been possible.

Best wishes for the future,
The CCC/LCH Committee.
