SEWING GROUP! A reminder that this starts tomorrow, 2-4pm in the hall.

All very welcome - feel free to stay the whole time or drop in for part of it. You can do any sort of stitching / needlework you wish - knitting, crochet, tapestry, embroidery, felting, darning socks… whatever. You aren’t going to get thrown out even if you just come to sit and chat. We shall make introductions if you don’t know everyone already. We’ll have hot drinks and biscuits, and ask please for a donation of £2 towards the hall.

Some photos of the completed work on the village hall, with one “before“ photo at the end. We’ve new double-glazed windows, app controllable heaters, and redecoration thanks to a UK Shared Prosperity Fund grant awarded by York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority. We’ve got new curtains, crockery and chairs. Hope you agree that it’s looking great!

Here's the hall featured by North York Moors National Park re our Dark Skies lighting. Thanks to Richard Darn (Dark Skies) and Mike Hawtin (NP) for their help in getting this status. We are now in possession of a glorious plaque like this, but don't seem to have a window large enough to display it in!

New dark-skies-friendly lights on the hall!
On the initiative of Sustainable Lastingham and with great support from North York Moors National Park and a 75% grant, we’ve had most of our external lights replaced with these. They are warmer and point downwards rather than up:
- Better for stargazing, maintaining this as a designated dark skies area. And a first step in Lastingham becoming at Dark Skies Village.
- Better for the 30% of our widelife that’s nocturnal, including moths that are important pollinators too!
- Better for not wasting electricity by shooting light upwards. And they will use less anyway being LEDs.

And better lighting too - our front door light used to be hidden behind the door when it was open, plunging the steps into darkness.
