Calling all local makers and creatives! Tables are just £25 – only a handful left!

Largs SWI are hosting our Summer Craft Fayre, and we’re looking for a few more talented makers to join us.

This is set to be a fantastic day, celebrating creativity, community, and beautifully handmade work. It’s always a lovely atmosphere, with great support for local makers and plenty of visitors coming along to browse and buy.

Whether you create textiles, jewellery, homeware, artwork or something a little different, we’d love to hear from you.

It was an absolute pleasure to organise this very special wedding dress exhibition, bringing together a stunning collection of gowns and the stories behind them, spanning nearly eight decades from 1945 through to 2024.

Each dress carries its own unique history, reflecting not only changing styles and fashions, but also the personal moments, traditions, and memories woven into every stitch. A wedding dress is far more than fabric and thread—it’s a powerful symbol of love and a snapshot of a moment in time.

I’m so delighted to finally share this exhibition with you, one year on, and to celebrate the craftsmanship, creativity, and heartfelt stories that these remarkable dresses represent.

We’re feeling incredibly proud of our wonderful sewing community 💛

From those very first stitches on simple bags to beautifully finished tailored blouses and even coats – the progress we’ve seen has been nothing short of inspiring. Confidence has grown stitch by stitch, and it’s been a joy to watch so many complete beginners discover just how capable they really are.

With the addition of Christina’s fantastic pattern drafting class, we now have over 100 happy local women who can truly say: “I can sew!”

But it’s not just about the sewing. It’s the laughter, the encouragement, the shared cups of tea, and the friendships that keep people coming back week after week. The atmosphere is something really special.

We can honestly say that Largs SWI Sewing Club has become a huge success – and that’s down to all of you.

A heartfelt thank you, as always, to our incredible (and completely unpaid!) volunteers who give their time so generously: Alana, Christina, Karin, Jane A, Jane S and Gill. We simply couldn’t do it without you.

Here’s to many more stitches, smiles, and cups of tea!

Our Summer Craft Fair is just around the corner and it’s set to be a fantastic day! We still have a few stall spaces available for talented crafters and makers who’d like to be part of it.

Our members are all ages, all backgrounds, all interests — and what we share is a love of learning new skills, supporting our community, and having a genuinely good time together.

We had an absolutely fantastic night last night — the building was buzzing, the laughter was flowing, and creativity was everywhere!

A huge well done to our six beginners, who are officially beginners no more! 🎉 They are now confident machine drivers, French-seam champions and proud makers of beautiful bags. Every single one looked amazing — we are so impressed. 👏 And we don’t stop there — we're excited to welcome another six brand-new beginners next week as our sewing journey continues!

We were also truly touched to receive this lovely message from one of our new sewists:

“A big thank-you to all the wonderful ladies at the sewing club for making it such an enjoyable time. I appreciate the laughter, the tips, and the great company! Can’t believe what I learned in such a short time. I even managed to fix my winter coat! Hopefully see you all soon x”

What a fantastic endorsement of our welcoming and encouraging community spirit 💛

In total, 26 women filled the halls with stitching, learning, tea, and giggles:
🪡 6 women completed their Introduction to Sewing course
🧵 8 are now on week 3 of our Pattern Drafting & Sewing Class
🧶 10 launched our brand-new Crochet Club, expertly guided by Kirsty Fulton
🎁 2 members joined us to work on festive projects — fabulous Christmas gifts (no spoilers!)

A very special thank you to our fabulous volunteers —
Jane A, Jane S, Lynn, Christina, Alana, Karin and Gill —
for sharing expertise, encouragement and kindness throughout the night. And a special nod to Jane A for keeping us fuelled with tea and coffee!

Nights like these truly show what Largs SWI is all about — learning new skills, supporting each other, and having a great time together.
