Langholm Walks Group have recently been working with Tarras Valley Nature Reserve to place 5 seats at the lower Tarras Valley Nature Reserve. These can be seen on the path from The Round House to Broomholmshiels, the higher path from Hallpath to Broomholmshiels, and above the new ponds. There should be a full article about them in Next week's E & L Advertiser. We wish to thank Kevan Hotson for putting the seats together and also Simon Richardson's team for placing them in difficult places. The views from these seats are magnificent so please make an effort to see them and enjoy a well earned rest on them. Langholm Walks Group would also like to thank Jenny at TVNR for all her help and support in organising this and last but not least the sponsors for providing the funds to make this project possible. Our final job today was putting the brass plaques on them and Mike and Charlie have done a great job. We combined it with a 4 mile walk on a glorious day when the views were magical.

Yesterday I walked in lower Tarras Nature Reserve and today I visited upper Tarras and the road to Cooms farm. It’s such a peaceful area and today I only met these Goats plus a couple of cyclists. Probably the best two days of the year so far and no better place to enjoy nature and the lively environment we live in.

On a day like today my morning walk round Jenny Nobles Gill has to be one of the best walks in the South of Scotland. The old Oaks on Tarras Valley Nature Reserve are looking magnificent and well worth a visit. There are even several Geocaches on the route if you enjoy looking for them. It’s walk no 7 in The Langholm Walks Booklet. At times it can be a bit muddy so wear good walking boots. You won’t be disappointed.

In a 5 minute sit down in the park after a walk this morning I recorded 14 birds singing on my phone. Spring is definitely in the air.

This is the best week of the year to see the Snowdrops at North Lodge on this walk.
Take a walk there this week and you won’t be disappointed.

An easy walk following both sides of the River Esk, Langholm taking in mixed woodland with good birdlife.
