Electric Storm Youth

Electric Storm Youth Electric Storm Youth exists to support, inspire and equip young people aged 10–18 in Sussex to thrive emotionally and socially.

Based in the heart of our community, we provide a consistent, welcoming presence for young people. Electric Storm Youth (ESY) is a youth work charity operating in Lancing and Sompting, West Sussex. We work with young people aged 11-19 and we offer the following range of services. Saturday Sessions: These are run during term time on a Saturday evening between 7-9pm. At these sessions we offer hot f

ood, games, movies, activities and a place to just relax with friends. If you wish to attend these sessions, please email [email protected] to register with us and for full details of the session. Bolt Hole Drop-In: This is a drop in session run after school on a Friday during term time. It is based at the Sompting Big Local hub from 3-4.30pm and we provide snacks and drinks, a place to hang out with friends and a chance to chat to our youth work staff. Young Carers Support: We work in partnership with the local secondary school to offer support sessions to young carers, this can be through 1-2-1 sessions with our youth workers and also group holiday activities. Detached work: We run four detached sessions a week around Lancing, Sompting and Shoreham. We have a mobile provision van allowing us to travel around the local area and also be a focal point for any young people out and about who need us or even just want to come and have a chat. This work also allows us to meet with young people who don't normally engage in mainstream activities and get to know them them on their own turf. Mental and Emotional Health Support: We offer various forms of mental and emotional support including 1-2-1 counselling sessions, group support and online workshops. Youth Forum: All of our services and activities are planned in partnership with our youth forum, this group of young people help us to make sure we are meeting the needs of local young people and that our work is relevant to them. For more information on any of our services or if you wish to access any of the support available, please message us or email [email protected]

Our Electric Art group was back at it this week, creating vibrant handprint pieces using a beautiful palette of blues, greens, and nature-inspired imagery. Every single piece was made using sustainable materials from Scrap Space! 🌍

This session was all about connection. The group listened to music and shared their favourite artists while they had their check in and catch up.

We also gave the group a look at photos of our Worthing Seafront planting competition display! Seeing their custom-painted pebbles out in the real world brought huge smiles to the room. πŸ₯°

We're celebrating Pride month! πŸŽ‰

This month is first and foremost for the LGBTQIA+ community, but active allyship is vital for creating a truly inclusive culture.

What does being a good ally look like for us?
🌈 Learning about the unique issues affecting LGBTQIA+ youth.
🌈 Speaking up and actively calling out discrimination.
🌈 Being there as a trusted pillar of support.

At ESY, our doors are always open to everyone. We pride ourselves on providing non-judgemental and safe spaces where young people can connect and feel heard.

Our half-term trip to Worthing Museum last week was a huge success! We spent the afternoon learning about the global journey of the Highdown Goblet ahead of its special exhibition in summer 2027.

To help bring its story to life, the brilliant Jane introduced us to the world of stop-motion. Our young people used their imaginations to design custom drawings for zoetropes, watching their creations transform into moving animations! We had everything from bouncing balls to pecking birds. 🐦

Our highlight...
πŸ˜€ Seeing the young people's animations come to life.
πŸ˜€ Welcoming new young people to our sessions.
πŸ˜€ Building awesome connections with our regulars.

It’s always special to see our young people try something new and let their creativity shine. Huge thanks to Worthing Museum for having us! πŸŽ¨πŸ’š

This , we're celebrating our amazing volunteers!

Our Charity Shop Volunteers have gone above and beyond over the last month as we had a new till system installed. It's not been easy and we are so grateful for how they've embraced the training and the changes.
The new till allows us to register donors for Gift Aid which allows us to raise crucial funds to support the work we do locally with young people.

They are awaiting your donations so come down to 79-81 North Road with your unwanted items! Find out more about what we can and can't take here https://www.electricstormyouth.co.uk/esy-shop

No two minds are the same.

One of our Youth Team recently completed an Autism Awareness training course to help us improve our understanding of neurodivergence here at ESY.

We know that every young person we support is an individual, but the training highlighted just how often neurodivergent young people feel misunderstood or pigeonholed in daily life.

Here are a few important stats that the training highlighted...

πŸ’š Over 1/2 of people diagnosed with Autism also have an ADHD diagnosis.
πŸ’š 40% of neurodivergent people have a diagnosed anxiety condition
πŸ’š Neurodivergent people typically need twice the amount of support or counselling sessions to allow for processing and building trust.
πŸ’š Many experience Alexithymia (a condition where a person struggles to identify or describe their own emotions.)

We aren't claiming to be perfect experts, but we are committed to listening, learning and creating a space where no one is made to feel "weird" for just being themselves.
