☀️ Weekly Update: Open Garden Success, ASDA Essentials, and a Hive of Community Projects!
It has been a busy week at the Shed! The sun has been out along with some much needed showers, the workshop has been buzzing, and our community connections have never felt stronger.
Here is a look at what we have been up to:
🏡 Garden News: A Fantastic event at the weekend!
We were delighted to be invited to open our gardens for the North Lancing Community Association (NLCA) Annual Open Garden event last weekend, this is the third year running we have done so and it is great to be able to chat with local residents who previously visited and can see the changes that have occurred. The sun shone during the whole event that saw a fantastic turnout! We received some incredibly kind, positive comments about how much the space has transformed. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to wander the paths, look at the blooms, and chat with the shedders.
Speaking of the garden, it is now officially fully stocked and looking picture-perfect for the season, thanks to a final delivery of plants from Tinia , the Lions, and Ferring Nurseries . 🌱🌸
🚚 Out & About: Community Requests Handed Over
We’ve had a busy week delivering on our promises to local groups:
• North Lancing Primary School : The Human Fruit Machine request has been delivered! The school is going to take over the painting honors from here, and we can't wait to see the pictures once they have put their creative touches on it! 🍓🍋🍏
• Keep Lancing Lovely : We’ve finished adding some strengthening tweaks to a popular item they brought into us, and it's now been handed back ready for their next event.
🛠️ In the Workshop & On the Workbench
Inside the Shedders have been working flat out on a huge variety of builds:
• Beach Toy Lending Libraries: Work has officially started on our newest beach toy lending library! We will also soon be heading out on-site to refurbish the existing popular toy libraries we supplied on either side of The Perch back in 2023. 🏖️🧸
• Fresh Builds: A rustic chunky farmhouse table has been made using 4x2 timbers and some table legs we saved from landfill. The Chesham House notice board is currently on the bench receiving its final, vibrant topcoats of red paint. 🎨
• Care for Veterans Fayre Preps: We are full steam ahead creating new stock to help raise funds for this fantastic charity next month when we attend the annual summer fayre. Along with our Bee Whirligigs, we are creating a whole new flock of planters—including swans and brand-new sheep designs, there is also a hint of some Chicken/Rooster planters too 😊 —plus some animal shaped wine bottle holders! 🦢🐑🐝
🍪 Shed Superstars & Elevenses Essentials!
Our tea breaks have been kindly stocked back up this week thanks to some amazing community support:
• Asda Community Champion Gary popped in on Monday bearing the ultimate Shed elevenses kit: a fresh supply of tea, coffee, and biscuits to keep the workshop running! Also staying for a while to check out what we are working on and enjoying some chats with the shedders, we are very grateful for your continued support ☕🍪
• A big shout-out to Sue from Recycling in Lancing for kindly donating a spare bin she had to help us keep all our workshop recycling neatly organised. ♻️🗑️
A massive thank you to everyone who supports us online and in person. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone! 👋🛠️✨

☀️ Weekly Update: Big Installations, Kind Donations, and a Record-Breaking Swiss Roll!
Despite a good dose of well needed British rain this week it did not slow us down, the workshop has been an absolute hive of activity, community spirit, and massive surprises.
Here is a look at what the shedders have been up to:
🚚 Out & About in the Community
It’s been a massively rewarding week for getting completed projects out into the local area where they belong:
• Bramber Primary School: We attended the site this week with the lending library we recently made after a request from Laura, we are pleased to announce this is now installed and ready for the children to enjoy! 📚✨Big Thanks to caretaker Richard for his help and humour whilst we was on site.
• The Dovecot Refurbishment: This restored piece has officially flown the nest and is back home with its owner.
• A Huge Thank You to Wyldwood Ltd: We were contacted by Wendy, who kindly offered a look at some timber cladding they had removed from a project they have been working on to see if we could make use of any of it rather than letting it go to a skip. We gratefully accepted and we manged to collect almost all of the material, and the guys are already prepping it to be transformed into future community projects! 🪵♻️
🛠️ In the Workshop & On the Workbench
With the rain coming down, the guys kept dry with the tools humming inside the Shed. We are now in full swing preparing a range of items for the upcoming Care for Veterans Fayre next month! On the workbenches this week either being designed, made or painted we've had:
• Buzzing new Bee Whirligigs 🐝
• Our elegant Swan Planters 🦢
• Magical little Fairy Doors 🧚‍♂️
• A beautiful variety of wood-turned items, plus plenty more clever builds yet to be made 😊 !
The request for a human fruit machine display board for North Lancing Primary School / North Lancing First & Middle School is also well underway, a first for us but looking at the example pictures we was sent it looks like it will be great fun, this will be delivered to the school next week where it will be painted ready for upcoming events :) .
🏡 Garden News: Big Weekend Ahead!
Amongst all the hustle and bustle, we’ve been working extra hard in our garden area to get it looking it’s best for this weekend's local residents who attend the NLCA Open Garden Event.
It has changed just a little bit from when we first took it on! This year we are focusing on showing how much the area has changed and we can't wait to highlight what we started with compared to the beautiful space we've created today. 🌱🌸 Helped as always by the fantastic donations of plants that we receive from Tinia, Lancing and Sompting Lions and Ferring Nurseries .
🍰 Elevenses: The Great Swiss Roll of 2026!
We always look forward to Elevenses, but this week gave us a treat we will never forget! Local resident and long-term supporter Jodie needed a quick job done, and knowing how the Shed operates, she brought in the ultimate thank-you token.
We have never seen a Swiss Roll like it—this thing was absolutely huge! We actually had to park a trolley next to it just for a size comparison (take a look at the photos 😊 😊 ). Needless to say, it didn't last long against a hungry team and a fresh brew. Thank you, Jodie! ☕🍰 ( Mmmm I wonder about that trolley :) )

A massive thank you to everyone who supported us this week. We hope you have a great weekend ! 👋

☀️ Weekly Update: Short Week, Big Progress, and Ice Cream to Cool Down!

What a busy (and slightly shorter!) session week it’s been. Despite the bank holiday giving us a late start, the sunshine has been beaming, the workshop has been absolutely buzzing, and we even had to make a tactical emergency run to top up our ice cream stores!

We’ve been busy prepping a big wave of completed projects for delivery while keeping the momentum going on new builds. Here is a look at what we've been up to:

🚚 Out & About (and Prepping for Next Week!)
We are gearing up for a busy week of deliveries and installations next week. The workshop is going to feel a lot emptier very soon:

• Bramber Primary School Lending Library, booked in for its installation next week! 📚✨
• The Noah’s Ark Nursery lending Library: this build is also headed for installation next week.
• The Dovecot Refurbishment: This large restored piece will be ready mid week and is scheduled for delivery. 🕊️

🛠️ In the Workshop & On the Workbench
Inside the Shed, we have been making the most of every session, splashing on the paint ( literally in some cases :) ) and tackling a fantastic mix of community and personal projects:

• Whirligig Madness: Our popular Snoopy whirligig is officially finished and after a few coats of varnish is now ready for a new home! Meanwhile, the whole "swarm" of new whirligig prototypes have officially received their first coat of paint and will soon start to get the top coat of yellow and black.
• Chesham House Centre Notice Board: The refurbishment is moving along nicely, with the first coat of paint now applied.
• Swan Planters: These are coming along nicely and looking more elegant by the day. 🦢🌱
• Community Requests: Work is underway on an exciting new project request for North Lancing Primary School/Middle School !
• Personal Projects: As always, the benches have been put to good use for clever home fixes, including a summerhouse door and a summerhouse window fix. 🏡☀️

Today we received our first update picture from our recent planter build at Lancing Parish Council it was sent in by local resident Kay and is the planter Seth made and has looked after. Well done Seth :) Thanks for the picture, please do send another when you find out what flower it turns into as we have no idea either as we put random bulbs in the compost bags handed out with the planter you made :) .

We also received another picture today, this time showing the fish tank stand one of our shedders made for a local resident :) .

🍦 Elevenses (With a Twist!)
Of course, we made sure to protect the most important time of the day. But with the sun beating down, this week we traded the hot savouries for something a bit more refreshing. Elevenses this week featured a cooling round of ice creams—a delicious mix of Magnums and Cornetto’s ! Banter and a chat always seems better when there's chocolate and ice cream involved.

Big thanks for the donation of spare materials this week from local resident Jackie, we even managed to grab some materials out of the skip to repurpose too 😊 We’re always looking for materials to use on the projects we do, if you are doing some renovations, a local builder etc and have any leftover materials/old materials you have removed we may be able to make use of them. We try and make as many of our items as possible using reclaimed materials, so please before you skip it! Drop us a message we may well be able to repurpose it 👋.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

☀️ Weekly Update: Sunshine, Stories, and a Very Busy Shed!
What a week it’s been at The Shed! The week started with the sun shining, banter flowing, and the workshop has been absolutely buzzing with activity. We even welcomed that well-needed drop of rain to cool things down and give the garden a well needed soaking, it always amazes how much the plants move on after a god drop of rain.
The team has been incredibly busy working on a large mix of community initiatives, clever prototypes, and personal projects. Here is a look at what we've been up to:
🚚 Out & About in the Community
We’ve had a busy week delivering completed projects out of the workshop and into the local area where they belong:
• Worthing United Youth FC : Our hand-built benches have been officially delivered.
• Bramber Primary School: The new school library is fully completed and ready for the children to enjoy, we will confirm a fitting day very soon.
• New Homes Found: For the 4x2 bench, a collection of planters, and the childs see-saw these have all headed off to their new homes this week.
🛠️ In the Workshop & On the Workbench
Meanwhile, inside the Shed, the sawdust has been flying as the guys tackle a huge variety of builds:
• The Lending Library for Noahs Ark nursery is now agonizingly close to the finish line—it’s looking fantastic!
• The Dovecot Refurbishment project is officially complete and looking fantastic, local resident Liz will be happy as she thought it was beyond repair
• Whirligig Madness: Our popular Snoopy whirligig is ready for a new home, and a whole "swarm" of new whirligig prototypes are currently underway,.
• Creative Prototypes: The team is working on a new Swan planter prototype, and someone even managed to craft a brilliant large ladybird entirely from scrap materials!
• Personal Projects: As always, the sessions have also been used for clever home fixes and additions, including a custom bell holder this week.
🌱 Looking Ahead
Our recently completed Buddy Bench has a confirmed destination this is the last of three we made via the scheme run by UK Men's Sheds Association and Drink IQ—it will soon be making its way to its new home in the Lancing Community Garden to give people a comfortable spot to sit, chat, and connect. A great place for a planter buddy bench to reside Enjoy :) .
Of course, amidst all the drilling, sanding, and painting, we made sure to protect the most important time of the day: Elevenses! ☕🍪 Because as much as we love the woodwork, the chat, the laughs, and checking in on each other over a cuppa is what the Shed is truly all about.
A massive thank you to all the shedders for their hard work and great company this week. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Weekly Update: Sunshine, Stories, and a Very Busy Shed!

What a fantastic week it’s been. The weather has been great with plenty of sun and the odd shower during our sessions—perfect for keeping the workshop doors wide open whilst tinkering before enjoying a well-earned "elevenses" break. There’s nothing quite like a sit-down, some banter and a proper chat in the sunshine to recharge the batteries.
Here is a look at what we’ve been working on and some of the wonderful community moments that made this week special.

On the Workbench This Week
We’ve had a variety of projects on the go, ranging from community builds to creative recycling:
• Bramber Primary School: We are putting the finishing touches on their new Book Lending Library. We hope it sparks a lot of joy (and reading!) for the children. As is the second one we are working on for Noahs Ark Nursery
• Football Club Benches: Work is well underway on the request for help making the changing room seating for local club Worthing United Youth FC —these will be perfect for those weekend matches.
• Creative Scrap: A "Ladybird" project is a great example of what we love to do—taking bits of scrap and turning them into something fun for the garden.
• Green Fingers: Our main garden planter has had a massive clear-out and a fresh replanting. It’s looking vibrant, healthy and will soon bloom into another great addition to our garden area very soon.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Our garden refresh wouldn't have been possible without the amazing donations from Ferring Nurseries via Lancing and Sompting Lions. We are so grateful for your continued support; it’s partners like you who help keep our garden area looking its best.

The Power of a Random Chat
One of the highlights of the week happened right outside our doors. We love it when locals stop by for a chat while passing, it results in so many wonderful things a lost dog returned, house keys found and returned or a simple chat putting the world to rights while the dog stops for a refreshment break from one of our water bowls, we also get an update on an item we made now and then as well and this week we received some lovely feedback.
A resident stopped to chat and whilst chatting informed us how an access ramp we had built a while back has completely changed their neighbour's life. After years of not being able to get outside without assistance, she is finally back in her garden, enjoying the fresh air and her plants once again, she had asked her friend when passing our units to Thank us and pass on the great news that she now spends lots of time enjoying her garden :) .
To be honest, we help on so many projects that without these updates we sometimes lose track of the specifics, but hearing that someone has regained their independence because of a bit of timber and some Shed teamwork is just fantastic. It’s exactly why we do what we do. Thank You again for stopping by and letting us know we are very grateful for the wonderful update.

Building for a Good Cause
If you see us tucked away in the workshop looking extra busy, it’s because we are starting to build up a "secret stash" of stock! We are making and storing a variety of items for a future event where we’ll be fundraising for Care for Veterans . We’re proud to support such an important organization, and we’ll share more details on that very soon.
________________________________________
We Need Your "Off-Cuts!"
We are always on the hunt for materials to repurpose. Before you head to the tip with leftover bits from your latest DIY project, please think of us! We can turn "waste" into community treasures or parts for our popular flat-pack builds.
• Yes please: Timber off-cuts, Plywood, and almost any solid wood.
• No thank you: MDF or Chipboard (as most of our items live outdoors and these don't like the rain!).
Please send us a message to see if we can make use of it, we’ll be happy to come along and take it off your hands.
________________________________________
Thank you all for being such a supportive community. Whether you donate wood, buy our items, or just stop by for a five-minute chat, you’re the reason the Shed keeps thriving.
Ewww nearly forgot to add the Bluetits are happy in their regular home and now feeding their young, a very short video in will be added to the comments it is great to see and hear them every morning :) . Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
