Lancaster Nightline

Lancaster Nightline Lancaster University Nightline is a confidential listening and information service provided by students for students.

For information, or someone to listen, ring us on 01524 59 44 44 (off-campus), or on-campus using your room phone on 9 44 44. The Tenets of Nightline:

Lancaster Nightline operates under five tenets, which are applied to every call and email we receive. The tenets exist to assure our callers that they will be treated with sincerity, whatever their call concerns. The tenets of Nightline are as foll

ows:

Anonymity: In all cases, both the caller and the Nightliner taking the call will remain anonymous. This tenet ensures that callers are not going to bump into the person they have spoken to the night before, and vice versa. Maintaining anonymity protects callers and our volunteers’ views from being associated and expected from the service as a whole. In accordance with this tenet, Nightliners generally avoid giving out personal information, and will never encourage callers to reveal more information about themselves than they wish. Confidentiality: Everything and anything discussed in a call or email to Nightline will remain confidential. Your calls are not recorded, and noone else will know you have called. Non-Judgemental Listening: Nightline neither condones nor condemns. Our volunteers are not taking calls to make judgements, only to listen to you. This tenet assures callers that they may talk about whatever they wish, and still be listened to with impartiality and sincerity. Non-Directive Conversation: Just as Nightline does not judge, Nightline does not instruct. Our volunteers are not trained to give advice. Rather, we aim to give callers a chance to think things through, and come to their own conclusions, providing relevant information and contacts when necessary. Empathy: Nightliners aim to understand callers’ situations from the viewpoint of the caller, rather than importing their own experiences. Our volunteers will not claim to “know how you feel”; rather, they will learn how you feel through listening to your experiences as you tell them.

Remembrance Day 🕊️❤️

On the 11th of November, we take time to honour and remember those who have fought and helped in wars, and those who gave their lives - including animals such as dogs, horses and pigeons.

You may see people around wearing a red poppy, this is a symbol of hope, peace and new beginnings, and originated from the bright red flowers which grew on the battlefields of World War One.

You can participate in Remembrance Day by wearing a red poppy pin, or by taking part in a two minute silence.

We understand at Nightline that this can be a difficult day for some, so please remember that Nightline is always here to listen, about whatever you’d like to talk about.

Lest we forget 🕊️❤️
