The Fairfield Association is proud to announce the grand opening of their Little Library at the playground this Saturday between 2pm and 3pm. It has been funded by donations and this year's carol singing and built by Lancaster Mens' Hub. We will be holding a community picnic (bring your own food and snacks) to celebrate its opening. A chance to play/read/catch up with friends.

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of Sue Nieduszynska. Sue was a Trustee of the Fairfield Association for many years and worked tirelessly to manage the nature reserve.

Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate Sue's life at Beetham Hall Crematorium at 11:00 am on Wednesday 8 July 2026.

A private burial will follow.

All are welcome to join the family afterwards at Longlands Hotel from 12:30 pm.

Please share this information with Sue's friends. Kindly RSVP to [email protected].

The family kindly requests donations to The Fairfield Association rather than flowers. https://wonderful.org/pay?ref=1058030

As part of the Royal Entomological Society's Insect Week 2026, Williamson Park and the Mini Zoo will once again be hosting a series of public engagement activities celebrating insects, wildlife and conservation in June.

To help launch the week, and to celebrate the anticipated recent re-opening of the zoo, we are planning a free Conservation & Wildlife Day at the Ashton Memorial on Sunday 21 June, and we would be delighted to invite you along from 11am.

A tree, at the end of Ashfield Avenue was damaged in the storm and had to be felled. The City Council plans to plant a replacement tree, preferably slow growing and native. Suggestions should go to Mandy Bannon:

We’re excited to invite you to spend some ‘blossom time’ in our orchard on Saturday 2nd May 2026 - fingers crossed the blossom hangs on until then :). Orchard Blossom Day is a new annual celebration taking place across the UK and Europe encouraging people to appreciate what an important local resource orchards are for people and wildlife.

Six orchards across Lancaster will be open to visitors - and you’ll find more than just apple and pear trees. From grapes, feijoas and hops in Miss Whalley’s Field, to prickly ash in Scotch Quarry and medlars in Fairfield there’s something for everyone. If you’re feeling energetic, you could walk between all six orchards!

We invite you to bring a picnic and join others for a blossom picnic between midday and 2pm on Saturday 2nd May.

We hope this new day will be popular and will complement our apple day activities in September. If you’re interested in finding out more about heritage orchards or want to find other orchards nearby which will be open, take a look at www.orchardnetwork.org.uk

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday 2nd May in Fairfield's orchard, or visit all six orchards below!
