Financial pressures can affect different aspects of family life, including household costs, food, heating and access to activities and opportunities.

As part of Challenge Poverty Week 2026, we’re working with the Scottish Pantry Network to help connect people with local food support, alongside the employability support available through our service.

Supporting parents and carers towards employment, while helping connect families with wider sources of practical support, can contribute to a joined-up approach to tackling child poverty.

For many people, employment can be an important part of improving financial security, but the quality of employment also matters.

Fair work can include factors such as fair pay, secure employment, good working conditions and opportunities to develop skills and progress.

That's why we work with individuals and employers to support people into sustainable employment, while helping employers connect with suitable candidates and recruitment support.

We can also help people identify and access wider support where financial or practical barriers may affect their journey towards employment.

The Pod – What a Transformation!

Just look at the transformation!

From the before photos to what The Pod has become today — it’s fantastic to see how the space has been transformed into a welcoming, modern environment for people, partners and the community.

We officially launched The Pod a couple of weeks ago, and it was great to have our partners and community join us to celebrate the launch.

A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in bringing The Pod to life. We’re looking forward to continuing to work alongside our partners, building new opportunities and creating positive experiences for the people we support.

This is just the beginning!

🌟 From redundancy to a new career chapter! 🌟

When Graeme was referred to Routes to Work South by his Work Coach, he had a clear goal - to return to a career in project management.

Having previously worked in the sector, Graeme found himself facing an obstacle following redundancy. Despite applying for roles, he wasn’t getting anywhere because he didn’t hold the PRINCE2 qualification required by many employers. To overcome this barrier, Graeme’s RTWS adviser arranged for him to complete the qualification, giving Graeme the best opportunity to achieve his goal.

Alongside his training, Graeme worked one to one with his adviser to update his CV, build his interview skills and prepare for new opportunities. Graeme successfully completed his PRINCE2 qualification and, with his new skills and renewed confidence, began getting interviews for project management roles.

We’re delighted to share that Graeme has now started full time employment with as a Programme Transformation Officer! 🎉👏

Graeme's journey is a fantastic example of how the right support, determination and a little encouragement can help turn a barrier into a new opportunity.

🌟James’s RTWS Success Story🌟

When James joined RTWS, he had never worked or actively looked for work. With support from the team, he identified an interest in security and took the first step towards a career by completing his SIA training.

Despite finding travel challenging, James attended the course every day and successfully achieved his SIA award. He is now awaiting his SIA badge and looking forward to starting work in the security sector.

James said:

“Thanks to RTWS and being introduced to the POD, I was helped to identify a possible career option by David. I don’t think I would have done this by myself.”
