A 4am start today - totally worth it to capture the beauty of the morning light filming in Lamlash for Arran Community Renewables around Glenkiln, the future location of the solar farm.

Watching the island wake up while documenting a project to help Arran become more sustainable is pretty special.

Today is World Earth Day

“The earth is what we all share.” Wendell Berry

Earth Day is a reminder that the places we love are worth protecting.

Here on the Isle of Arran, we feel that connection every day, to the land, the sea, and the landscapes that shape how we live.

Arran Community Renewables is working towards generating clean energy locally and feeding it into the national grid, with the value created coming back to Arran to support community-led environmental and local projects.

It’s not just about energy. It’s about sharing responsibility for the world we live in, and creating a more sustainable future for Arran, together.

Arran opportunity
Spread the word.
Share the power.

Do you love connecting people, sharing local news and stories, and making things happen in your community?

Arran Community Renewables is looking for a Voluntary Director (Community Engagement & Communications) to help bring the Glenkiln Solar Farm to life — on track to become Scotland’s largest 100% community-owned solar energy project.

The role:
• Around 8–10 hours per month
• Lead community engagement by supporting both in person and online communications and events.
• Help shape how we connect with people — locally and as the project progresses, ensuring we get our message out there both locally and nationally is going to be increasingly important.

This is a brilliant opportunity to play a key role in how Arran’s community connects with and benefits from this landmark project.

If you enjoy working with people, sharing ideas, and helping build momentum around something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be part of:
• A dedicated, local board
• A project with real long-term impact for Arran
• A growing movement in community-owned energy
• Expenses covered

Last week’s Environment Week on Arran was incredible. So many organisations opened their doors, shared ideas, and connected with the community.

We were grateful to be part of it — thank you to Arran Eco Savvy for organising such a brilliant festival.

We loved meeting so many of you at our three events:
• The Solar Farm Walk at Glenkiln
• The screening of POWER Film
• The High School event on Saturday

Your questions, feedback, and suggestions were fantastic to hear, and we can take them all forward with us — thank you to everyone of you, for taking the time to talk with us.

If you came along, give us a 👍 or say hi in the comments!
Don't be a stranger.

And a reminder: we’re currently looking for volunteers, we are seeking a Director/Volunteer to lead on Community Engagement

Power Station – Film Screening and Q&A
🎟️ A few free tickets remain – grab yours link in the comments below!
🎬 Watch the trailer.

The film is funny, moving, and downright brilliant, following artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn – “the potential of people power is illustrated through a successful bid to set up solar panels in homes… to reduce costs and aid the environment” – Film Review Daily.

Secure your FREE ticket and join us on Wednesday Evening at Corrie & Sannox Hall. After the film, there will be a Q&A with Chris, one of our Volunteer directors. Come along, and take the opportunity to ask your questions about ACR and its plans on Arran.
Don’t miss the chance to see what’s possible when communities take energy into their own hands.
