We’re always here to help with digital support, whether that’s getting to grips with your phone, accessing online services or building your confidence. There’s currently a waiting list of around three weeks, but please get in touch and we’ll get you booked in.

Nobody should feel left behind because they struggle to get online.

Foundation Scotland

Being online can help us stay connected with people and communities, look for work, find better prices and access support when we need it. But the cost of data, broadband or a suitable device can put those opportunities out of reach.

This , we’re highlighting how poverty and digital exclusion can reinforce each other here in the Highlands. The Highland Poverty and Equality Commission’s recent Essential Elements report calls for better connectivity, lower costs and more local support to help people build digital skills and confidence.

At HTSI, we’re speaking with organisations across Highland, including a recent visit to Lairg & District Learning Centre, which the report highlights as a local bright spot. We want to understand what digital support is available and where gaps remain. If your organisation provides support or sees the barriers people face, we’d love to hear from you.

Exciting news from one of our Culture Collective partners Strathnaver Museum …

🎊 Some exciting news to share for the weekend!! 🎊

🎙️ Our podcast ‘Highlands Reimagined’ is a finalist in two categories at the Independent Podcast Awards! The ceremony will be on Wednesday 4th November, at Kings Place in Kings Cross, London. The podcast was commissioned by us, is produced by Anya Media and published in partnership with the Wild for Scotland podcast.

The ‘Highlands Reimagined’ podcast explores why young people leave northwest Sutherland and what will encourage them to build their futures in the region. It features interviews with students from Farr High School, local entrepreneurs and remote workers across three thirty-minute episodes.

🏛️ Using objects in the museum collection the young people explore the age-old problem of Highland depopulation and outward economic migration. Through interviews with national and regional representatives from government, agencies and community organisations the young people discuss their hopes and fears for their future as part of their Highland community.

The podcast emerged from Will Sadler’s successful 2024 Artist in Residence project where he used objects in the museum collection to explore issues relevant to Highland communities today. The Artist Residency Programme has been part funded by Museums Galleries Scotland, The William Syson Foundation, the Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund, and has received £5,755 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Visitors to our Museum can browse the ‘Highlands Reimagined’ digital kiosk at the onsite. The kiosk features questions for visitors to explore which link to objects in the museum collection and listen to extracts from the ‘Highlands Reimagined’ podcast.
