At the AGM last night (20/11/25)…..
The meeting was successful from the outset as we had enough people attend to continue the meeting legitimately.
This means that at least 10% of members were there, ie at least 22 out of 219 members.
So Thank You if you were one of those!

If you are a member, you should have received the Treasurer’s report via email (last night at 2130).

Last night, two Board members stepped down: Lewis MacAskill (chair), who had been with us since 2017, and Dorothy Griffen Callus.
We were extremely grateful for all the work that they’d put in, through some particularly challenging times, and wished them well for the future.

Our Board now consists of 5 elected members and one co-opted (Simon Jeffreys), and are:

Chair: Joe Land
Vice chair: Heather Macdonald
Treasurer: Simon Jeffreys
Chris Puddephatt
Simon Burrage
Stefan Taylor

This is very good news and worth a read:

Assynt Development Trust is pleased to announce that following the purchase of Lochinver Glebe ground from the Church of Scotland as long ago as March 2021, that full planning permission has now been granted for the first phase of ten houses. This is a breakthrough for our organisation – a charity that serves rural regeneration in the communities and townships of the parish of Assynt.

With the first ten houses planned for social-level rental, with allocations based on local letting criteria, this project intends to reduce the loss of our families and working-age population, and help fill key staffing gaps in local services (shortages revealed by housing assessment research carried out in 2019 by Communities Housing Trust). In the formative stages of this project, ADT intends to start the build in July 2026 with a variety of 2 and 3 bedroom units.

While our committed staff and voluntary members of the Board along with the design team led by Oberlanders architects, are busy pushing ahead towards the building warrant and construction tender, ADT is relaunching a skilled steering group to examine how best to support our community in taking this development forwards to the next phase. As part of the overall project, ADT aspires to generate new woodland, create small-scale crofts, build new and accessible paths for local enjoyment of nature - and build a bridge over the River Culag to allow direct access to the primary school. Now that is worth working for! And with the cooperation of the Assynt Foundation, ADT hopes to build more housing in the future with a longer-term plan of a further 30 homes.

Are you interested in becoming involved in this exciting new development? Becoming part of this steering group? Do you have skills that we could use? If you would like to get involved, please get in touch: [email protected].

The Glebe project is generously supported by Community Regeneration Fund; Crown Estate Scotland's Community Capacity Grant programme; Highland Council; Scottish Government's Rural & Islands Housing Fund;
SSE's Sustainable Development Fund; Scottish Land Fund.
