โšฝ **Passports, tinfoil sandwiches, World Cup dramaโ€ฆ and a whole lot of resilience!** ๐ŸŽคโœจ

What a brilliant evening at Heart of England Toastmasters as we gathered with the theme โ€œThe Courage to Begin.โ€

And courage was definitely in the roomโ€”from stepping up to speak, to tackling surprise Table Topics, to surviving passport-related chaos worthy of its own Netflix special. ๐Ÿ˜„

Our speakers took us on quite the journey. Peter Sunderland shared a heartfelt and adventurous story about resilience, travel, and the strength of his wife through lifeโ€™s snowy twists and turns.

Phil had us on the edge of our seats with "Narrowly Avoiding Disasterโ€ - a heroic 1,500-mile passport rescue mission involving Bordeaux, border control, a chain-link fence, and a suspicious tinfoil sandwich. ๐Ÿฅช๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท And Luke brought his usual energy, humour, and presence to the stage, deflecting interruptions from Difficult People!

Then came Khurramโ€™s World Cup-themed Table Topics, where speakers had to think as fast as footballers on the pitch.

We heard ideas about global unity, 64-team tournaments, pressure moments, footballing fairness, and whether England winning the World Cup on home soil would cause โ€œmild chaos.โ€ Spoiler: yes. Absolutely yes. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ˜‚

The evaluations were sharp, supportive, and full of insight, with Ben, Sanatan, Kay, and Luke helping speakers grow while keeping the room smiling.

Ritu kept us grammatically resilient, Kate kept everyone timed, and Lee wrapped things up with a warm, funny, and thoughtful General Evaluation.

And nowโ€ฆ drumroll please! ๐Ÿฅ

๐Ÿ† **Best Speaker:** Phil Forster

๐Ÿ† **Best Evaluator:** Luke Biddle

๐Ÿ† **Best Table Topic:** James Poole

A huge congratulations to all our winners, speakers, role holders, guests, and everyone who made the evening such a lively success. ๐Ÿ‘

Our meeting on Tuesday 19th May was packed with great speeches, sharp evaluations, quick-thinking Table Topics, and plenty of club energy.

Andy Boojers guided us beautifully through the evening as Toastmaster, with speeches from Lee Greenhough, Nelphy Siby, and Shashikant Vyas covering everything from happiness and chocolate to AI and leadership. ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿค–๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿช When life cuts the string, Toastmasters teaches you how to fly anyway!๐Ÿช

At our Heart of England Toastmasters meeting on Tuesday, 5th May, the theme was New Hope and the Word of the Day was Resilience (well, it was the day after "Star Wars Day - May 4th!)

We heard fearless speeches from:
Rupali Kadhane with Fear to Here,
Kay Sorce with Stepping Into the Fear,
Uma Ryali with Kati-Patang, meaning Cut Kite,
and Luciano Forino with New Beginnings.
From courage to reinvention, the speeches gave us plenty to think about, smile about, and clap loudly about. ๐Ÿ‘

A special nod to our role-holders too:
Soumitra Goswami guided the evening as Toastmaster,
Khurram Afzal kept us all on time,
Andy Taylor stepped in as Grammarian,
Irene Mariki led a lively Table Topics session,
and Kate Archer wrapped things up with the General Evaluation.

Claire Hamill also deserves a round of applause for stepping in as Evaluator 1 and presenting the awards as acting President. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ† Awards of the evening:

๐ŸŽค Best Speaker: Uma Ryali for Kati-Patang
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Best Evaluator: Luke Biddle
โšก Best Table Topic: Luke Biddle

Congratulations to all our speakers, evaluators, impromptu speakers, and everyone who helped make the evening fly, even when the kite was cut. ๐Ÿชโœจ
