Given that the previous post was not sent on behalf of the Trustees and does not provide a complete picture, it is essential to clarify several points.
Firstly, it is not only the transport side that is under threat, but the Charity as a whole. The Trustees have been exploring options to continue the services that the Charity currently offers for the past few months, but the reality is that the Charity will soon be unable to meet its creditors. The transport side of the Charity has always been subsidised by the income from the furniture barn, but unfortunately, this has not been generating the income it once did.
At last year’s AGM, we advised that the Charity’s finances would experience a downturn and cited the drop in income and the ending of a lottery grant, which had sustained the Charity for the previous two years. The world is a very different place compared to the period before COVID-19, and the Charity is another victim of this change.
We have sought donations via this page, the Trustees’ own social media pages, published in the Powys County Times, and established a GoFundMe page. Unfortunately, the level of funding that the transport side requires far exceeds what we have been able to raise, and we do not anticipate being able to raise sufficient funds going forward. Even the furniture barn is currently unable to sustain itself.
The Trustees did not intend this news to be announced over social media, as such a platform is not the appropriate forum for providing such information and facilitating informed discussions. Therefore, the Trustees will be convening a Special General Meeting within the next two weeks to provide further information and a comprehensive overview of the situation. Time and date to follow.
Once the meeting has taken place and you are all fully informed of the predicament the Charity finds itself in, if anyone wishes to attempt to continue the operation of the Charity, whether the transport side, the barn, or both, they are, of course, free to stand as Trustees.
We hope that you understand that this is a last resort, and it is the last thing we wish to do, but we see no viable alternative. The Charity has been at the heart of the community for many years, and we will always be grateful to those involved for their dedicated service.
