Day 3 and a momentous one for our Branch Secretary, Karen Merriman, who moved motion 38 asking for national action to tackle the housing crisis facing our remote and rural areas. Karen is a long time conference delegate and finally faced her fears of public speaking this year. The motion was supported by other branches who and unanimously carried by delegates.

Let’s hope this experience continues to push our Branch Secretary, and other branch representatives, to conquer their fears and raise the profile of the branch further.

Day 2 of UNISON’s National Delegate Conference and this morning we have continued on motion 62 from yesterday afternoon which is emotive for many involved.

UNISON members who use their car for work have long been left out of pocket by petrol costs outstripping mileage rates. However a newly announced government review brings hope following years of UNISON campaigning.

Final and third day of conference we recognised and congratulated all those healthcare workers who have gone out on strike over the last year, with some going straight back to picket lines to continue the fight.

We also reminded employers that UNISON will not rest in the fight for fair pay for NHS staff.

Healthcare workers at send a clear message to the government: value NHS staff - 3.3% is not enough.
