Orkney Battalion Boys’ Brigade 7-a-side football shield for junior section.

The Groundwater Shield football competition will take place on Thursday 28th May from 6.30pm to 8pm on the KGS school 3G pitch. Boys should bring shorts, football socks, shin guards, football boots (no metal studs), and warm clothing to wear between games. Football shirts will be provided. They may also wish to bring along a drink & snack. Parents and friends are very welcome to come along and support.

Boys from the Tuesday and Wednesday sections who would like to take part should come along on the night, when the two teams will be selected, everyone shall get a game. Teams from the Finstown and Dounby Junior Sections will also be taking part, and each team will play three games during the evening.

The Finstown BB Company recently organised the Orkney Battalion Company Section Fun Evening at the Finstown Community Centre, welcoming eighteen boys from Kirkwall, Dounby, and Finstown. Divided into four mixed teams, the participants enjoyed a range of engaging challenges, including a quiz, guessing the prices of everyday groceries, a memory game, wellie boot throwing, three-legged race, transferring water between buckets using only a sponge and an obstacle race. The evening concluded with the ever-popular sponge cake decorating activity, followed by hot dogs, juice and biscuits and not forgetting sponge cake, ensuring everyone had a memorable and enjoyable experience.

Captain Stuart Gray is set to retire from the Boys' Brigade, ending a 62-year affinity with the youth organisation.

Mr Gray, who first joined when he was eight years old, has been an officer in the Kirkwall Company for the last 50 years, and has been the beating heart of the organisation in Kirkwall and in Orkney for decades.

KING’S BADGE COMPLETED

Well done to our 27 candidates who have just finished their King’s Badge Completion Course!

All candidates did a great job over the weekend and were a great bunch to work with. It was brilliant to see all mix well between Companies and Battalions and all the friendliness and good humour that resulted.

A massive well done for all the work you have done in your communities and for the difference you have made to the lives of others in the course of your King’s Badge journey.

We will look forward to seeing the presentations!
