Our Development Officer (Cameron) visited both Westray Junior High and Sanday Community School this week. During these school visits discussions were had with the young people around various topics including:

1. What does alcohol and drugs mean to us in Westray / Sanday?
2. Why do people use illegal drugs?
3. What are the potential negative impacts of drug use?
4. How can we reduce harm from alcohol & drugs and keep ourselves safe?

The young people aged from primary 6 up to S4's engaged really well with the content and shared some great feedback after the sessions:

"Don't be controlled by peer pressure and stick to boundaries"

"Power of consent, be respectful at all times"

"Try to find another coping habit than alcohol and/or drugs"

"Va**ng can cause headaches and damages your body"

"You don't know what is inside drugs unless it's a prescription from the doctor. Be careful and responsible for yourself and others"

"Reduce alcohol amount when you are 18 and over, spread this out if you do decide to drink and don't binge"

And the discussion(s) had with primary aged children was also important as one primary child said simply "don't overdo it and be silly" when we were talking about alcohol use.

Our Development Officer (Cameron) was out on a trip to Stronsay yesterday. As he visited the local community and Stronsay Junior High, during the school visit discussions were had with the young people around various topics including:

1. What does alcohol and drugs mean to us in Stronsay?
2. Why do people use illegal drugs?
3. What are the potential negative impacts of drug use?
4. How can we reduce harm from alcohol & drugs and keep ourselves safe?

The young people engaged really well with the content and shared some great feedback yesterday:

"I learned more about the impacts of different drugs. I also recapped the different categories which was useful"

"Don't mix drugs especially with alcohol"

"The more you know about the consequences of having drugs, the less likely you will take them"

"Always have someone responsible around to keep you safe"

"Don't pressure others and don't let others force you"

"Never have medical drugs if you don't need them"

"Drugs can erode certain organs"
