-The B:activ Project and Climate Action Youth-

Working on Health Promotion, Young Volunteer development and raising awareness on Climate Change, we hope to improve the lives of Children and Young People all across Fife. We use a Youth Work approach to deliver physical activity, skill development and education sessions. Our new young volunteer programme eXperience Pathway (XP) is being piloted and

will allow Young People to build experience and skills in topics and ways that they choose. Our commitment to Health Promotion means we’re out and about delivering sports and games sessions to Children and Young People all over Fife.

A fun week spent out and about in North East Fife delivering activities and attending events.

Marianne joined Families First - St Andrews to complete a mini Climate Know How Training Session, where the young people worked alongside their mentors from St. Andrews University to complete awards. Well done to all the young people who took part.

She then attended Cupar Youthcafe, to support the 16+ Programme where we shared a climate buffet, and did some upcycling - learning all about our Carbon Footprint.

Tayport Community Trust invited us to their event at the Larick Centre where over 60 young people joined Marly and Marianne for a fun filled day full of active games and climate crafts. (We may have enjoyed a well earned ice cream too πŸ¦πŸ˜€}

and, last night, Marianne and Seraphina joined the North East Fife Youthwork team, for the Blast@Madras. The P7 Transitions programme which works towards giving young people the opportunity to meet others who will be starting senior school after the summer. We did a Lacrosse Taster Session, which is not only fun, but, also works on building communication, leadership and the ability to work with others.

We hope you had an amazing Christmas Day, with lots of special memories made, and tasty treats enjoyed.

Why not continue the celebrations by taking some time out, and spending time outside, enjoying some active activities with family and friends. Time outdoors is recognised as being beneficial to mental health and wellbeing, boosting young peoples cognitive function and reducing stress and anxiety.

Why not take along a rubbish bag and gather while out, supporting the environment is key to our future pleasure through creating an environmental responsibility young people can understand how small actions can make a difference.

Merry Christmas from the b:activ team and all at Youth 1st.

Clued Up Project joined Youth 1st today for the last litter pick of our pilot Fife-wide pick. They chose to tidy the iconic Wemyss Caves, Macduff castle and surrounding areas. Together over the hour we managed to collect 6 large and stinky 🀒bags of rubbish, with the most unusual finds being golf tees and a ball 🏌️on a rocky shoreline, a fishing magnet and a welly boot πŸ₯Ύ
There was a lot of rope likely washed up on the beach during storms, however, it was so deeply embedded in the rocks it was impossible to remove.
Good effort from everyone who took part. πŸŒβ™»οΈπŸ‘

Our litter pick-nic with Fairway Fife took an active twist when we jumped on bikes and cycled out to a further out part of Loch Ore Meadows, part of the bike trails. We managed to gather, 5 large bags of rubbish, and 1 box of glass. It was great teamwork, and everyone enjoyed the fresh air.
Smashed glass and drinks cans was the biggest problem in this area, a popular meeting space for people to hang out in the evenings.
Well done guys! You certainly earned a picnic lunch after all your hard work and exercise.
Thanks for sharing the day with us - we
look forward to doing more like this together in the future πŸ˜€πŸ‘

We got out and about with the Glenrothes Strollers this morning for an active outdoor session doing a litter pick on the grounds surrounding the club.
Not only is this promoting physical and mental health it also teaches the young people about responsibility and about fostering community spirit and pride.
The young people gain an understanding of the effects of rubbish and pollution while working on important skills such as teamwork. And, being part of this team and observing results boosts confidence and wellbeing.
Well done to all who took part, we managed over the space of one hour to collect 10 large bags of rubbish, with the biggest problem in the area being used poo bags, glass bottles and drinks cans.
