What a difference a year makes! The Glenrothes group officially traded last year’s monsoon season for actual, real-life sunshine on this year's big day out. First Deer Centre, then Cupar Garden Centre for lunch. No soggy jackets in sight this time - just good food, great company, and a shocking amount of vitamin D. Turns out we don’t need to jet off to Spain; we just needed a bit of Scottish sunshine to completely change the game! ☀️🦌🍰
PS. Thank you everyone for sending their photos.

Residents across Fife are being encouraged to walk their way to a healthier lifestyle and help put the region firmly on the map by taking part in European Mobility Week 2026.

European Mobility Week (EMW), which runs from 16 to 22 September each year, is the European Commission's flagship campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility. The initiative encourages people to choose active travel, public transport and other cleaner transport options, helping create healthier communities and more sustainable towns and cities.

This year, Fife is once again taking part through a free walking challenge hosted on the Walk15 app, with more than 2,700 towns and cities from 46 countries participating in European Mobility Week last year.

Dunfermline finished an impressive 112th out of 577 teams in 2025, with participants recording a combined total of 1,412,259 steps.

Indeed, Dunfermline was one of only three UK towns or cities taking part and was beaten only by London among British entrants.

The challenge encourages people to make walking part of their daily routine, whether that's travelling to work, walking the school run, heading to the shops or enjoying a lunchtime stroll. As well as supporting more sustainable travel choices, walking can improve physical health, boost mental wellbeing, reduce stress and help people stay more active.

The week-long challenge is open to everyone, and this year people can register under Dunfermline or Kirkcaldy.

Residents, workers, students, businesses, schools, community groups and visitors are all invited to get involved and contribute their steps.

Getting involved couldn't be easier and it's completely free:

• Download the Walk15 app via www.walk15.app/en or from your preferred app store.
• Create a free account.
• Search for the European Mobility Week Challenge.
• Register under either Dunfermline or Kirkcaldy as the two places representing Fife.
• Start logging your steps between 16 and 22 September.

With just weeks to go until the challenge begins, organisers are hoping residents will sign up in large numbers and help build on the success last year.

Every step counts!
