Please keep up to date with the local weather forecast if possible, via the Met Office (online or app) or weather forecasts on television.

☀️

Follow the tips below to ensure you stay safe during the hot weather:

Keep out of the sun between 11.00am and 3.00pm when UV levels are highest

Wear at least factor 30 sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection and remember to apply 30 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapply every couple of hours.  Always follow manufacturer’s instructions.

Wear a hat or head covering whilst outside.

Wear light, loose-fitting cotton clothes.

Ensure everyone has plenty of cold drinks to keep hydrated (avoiding caffeine, alcohol or sugary drinks).

It is advisable to eat cold foods, particularly washed salads and fruit with a high-water content.

Keep the environment cool by keeping windows that are exposed to the sun closed or shaded - electric fans will help too and ensure a flow of air.

DO NOT use an electric fan if anyone in the building is unwell with symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ensure there are shaded areas in play or communal spaces.

Don’t leave vulnerable people alone especially in cars or rooms which get very warm such as conservatories.

Monitor children and vulnerable adults with health conditions.

Ensure that medication is kept below 25°C.

Take extra care when planning outdoor activities such as barbecues, which involve prolonged time spent outdoors as well as posing an additional fire risk.

Don’t jump into cold water (dams etc) to cool down. Extreme caution should be taken if entering, playing or swimming in open water.

Wild poppies, busy bees, and biodiversity in action 🌺🐝

These beautiful wild poppies were captured right here at The Eco Therapy Garden, with bees making the most of the pollen-rich flowers.

Over recent months, with support from The National Lottery Community Fund, we’ve been developing dedicated wild meadow areas across the garden, creating spaces where nature can thrive, pollinators can feed, and our volunteers can be part of growing something meaningful.

What may look “wild” is actually an important part of our work. These meadow areas help support bees, butterflies and other pollinators, while also improving biodiversity and creating a more natural, calming environment for everyone who visits the garden.

Our volunteers play a huge part in this, helping us plant, maintain, observe and protect these spaces as they grow. Every flower, every seed head, and every small patch of wildness makes a difference.

A huge thank you to TNL Community Fund The National Lottery Community Fund and National Lottery players for helping us continue this work and grow biodiversity together 🌿

Over the coming weeks we will be working hard with partner organisations to relocate the community supermarket after the tempreture inside the original space became unsafe to store foodstuff.
We know this service is vital to our community with nearly 100 registered customers and we are doing our very best to resolve the issue asap.

The garden Volunteers and friends spent time catching up on garden jobs from cleaning the coffee kiosk, planting seeds, to quietly sitting tieing honeysuckle to a frame.

The therapy garden is a big space to keep pretty and safe so volunteers are essential to the project.

Our volunteers are in the main often older members of our community with health conditions which can fluctuate. Meaning pacing activities is essential to maintain health. So a large amount of volunteers are needed to give people a good balance and rest period.

Like many projects, we struggle to recruit volunteers and think this may be due to people who have free time, not always using social media or seeing our posts.
So can we ask our community to spread the word to anyone of any age who may have an hour or so to spare regularly or as and when they have time.

There are real benefits of being outdoor in nature, learning new skills, improving health, meeting new people and being part of something as special as helping to maintain our lovely community therapy garden. We cannot do it without you. 🌳

Young Marketeers Market Day 🌱

We’re delighted to share that School Food Matters have organised a brilliant Young Marketeers Market Day at Kirkby Market on Friday 3rd July, 12–2pm.

Local children will be selling their school-grown fruit and vegetables, learning about food, growing, enterprise and community along the way.

We’re also very grateful that money raised from the sale will be kindly donated to The Eco Therapy Garden CIC 💚

We’ll also be bringing along some plants and hanging baskets lovingly grown and made by our volunteers, with all proceeds supporting our work in the community.

A huge thank you to School Food Matters, the schools involved, Kirkby Market and everyone supporting this lovely community event.

Come along, support our young growers and help raise funds for The Eco Therapy Garden 🌿

We have had a good few challengers over the last few weeks but today we came together and had a lovely community lunch. 🥪🫖🍰

Thanks to all who came, especially the families, nothing better to lift spirits than seeing youngsters having fun. We litter picked, bug & wildflower hunted, played table tennis, chess, had a tombola, ate a lovely lunch, chatted and put the world to rights.🌸🐞🏓

Thanks to Council for their support, the Ranger and staff .
Thanks to Cllr Brennan and Wright for attending.
Big thanks to volunteers/ garden friends for helping set up and clean up and for those who offered kind donations to the project.
A big thanks to our gardener L12 Maintenance for making the garden look so beautiful ! 👏
