Tuesday, 16th June saw a group of 42 Ashfield u3a members visit Nunnington Hall, a historic manor in North Yorkshire, with 13th century roots linked to a dissolved nunnery mentioned in the
Domesday Book of 1086. From 1839 to the 1920s it was owned by the by Rutson family, renovated by Margaret Rutson and Colonel Fife, upon Margaret's death in 1952 it was bequeathed to NT.
Inside the house there is the Carlisle Collection of miniature rooms. The gardens are a peaceful, organic, and richly diverse space blending historic design, seasonal planting and wildlife friendly features along the River Rye (or so I’ve read, we actually ran out of time to visit).
Our thanks go to Trish for another wonderful NT visit.
