This weekend is a busy one for our district! 🤠🌍

Our Scouts and Guides are heading off to the annual Link Camp with this year’s “Wild Wild West” theme, while our Cubs are travelling “Around the World” at North Yorkshire County Cubjam! ✈️⛺

We know there’ll be plenty of adventure, new friendships, campfire songs, challenges, laughter, and unforgettable memories made across both events.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers, leaders, and organisers who make weekends like this possible — and good luck to everyone taking part. We can’t wait to see the photos and hear the stories! 🧡

Have an amazing weekend everyone!

This week, our Cubs turned their hand to electrics, learning the practical skill of how to safely change a plug top. They discovered the importance of wiring correctly, identifying the live, neutral, and earth wires, and making sure each one is securely fastened in the right terminal. With careful guidance, they practised stripping the cable, connecting the wires, and checking that everything was fitted safely and neatly. It was a great hands-on experience that built confidence, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of basic electrical safety.

Scouts needs you! We are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team, whether that’s as a trustee, treasurer, Scout leader, or simply as an adult helper. Our sessions cannot run without the support of dedicated adults, and we need your help to keep Scouts going strong for our young people. If you already have children in Scouts, we’re offering half fees for anyone who steps forward to sign up to be trustee/leader. It’s a fantastic way to support your child, give back to the community, and be part of something rewarding. And don’t worry — our meetings take place in the pub, so there’s always a friendly and relaxed atmosphere! Join us and make a difference.

What a fantastic start we’ve had since returning after Christmas — our Squirrels have been non-stop!

We’ve enjoyed an exciting visit to the fire station and have been learning all about our five senses. Everyone bravely tried new foods, sharing what they could taste and smell — some wonderful reactions all round! A squirrel even made some yummy biscuits as part of her cooking badge. Also teaching the squirrels about allergies.

The Squirrels also made their very own binoculars and some fantastic bird feeders (although the squirrels weren’t too impressed with getting their hand that messy!).

Teamwork has been a big focus too, as everyone worked together to support one another through a fun obstacle course of which they planned themselves. It’s been brilliant to see their confidence and cooperation grow.

We’ve also handed out lots of well-earned badges — and we’re delighted to welcome three new Squirrels to the group! With a sad farewell to Theo as he starts his journey with beavers. We wish him all the luck in his new journey.

We’re looking forward to another fun-filled term, with plenty of exciting activities planned through to July.

We’ll also be celebrating a very special milestone — the first birthday of 1st Kirkbymoorside Squirrels in may. We can not wait to share this with you all and looking forward the party! 🐿️

It’s shaping up to be a fantastic year ahead!

The Scouts tonight double-checked and fine-tuned their route for next week’s night hike, successfully spotting Dean’s very deliberate “mistake” along the way 🙈—excellent teamwork and sharp eyes all round.

We also made a batch of legendary armpit fudge, which was unanimously rated a solid 10/10 👍 (sticky, sweet, and absolutely worth it).

To finish off the evening, we played a couple of games, lots of laughs, plenty of energy, and a great way to round out a busy, successful night 😃
