2488 Kingswinford Squadron Air Training Corps Welcome to the official page of 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron Air Training Corps Are you aged between 12 and 17?

Are you hungry for adventure, want to make new friends and gain experience like no other? If so then our organisation is just for you. The RAF Air Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation that is sponsored by the Royal Air Force. We provide training in various military skills including flying aircraft, fieldcraft, drill, shooting, Adventurous Training, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and many more. Our mission is:

To promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people. To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life
To encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

If you fancy doing something different in your time off from school, then why not join our squadron? We recruit throughout the year and the squadron parades every Tuesday and Thursday between 7:00pm and 9:30 pm. If you are interested, feel free to give us a call, send us an email or pop down on one of the parade nights for a chat.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING – WING CHAMPIONS! 🏆

On September 26th, our squadron once again ventured off to Eagles Trial to compete in a variety of competitions against our fellow wing members. These included Foot Drill, First Aid, Leadership, Band, Media, and Continuity Drill, as well as countless others.

The competition day arrived after months of hard work and dedication. From drill-laden squadron nights and hours of uniform preparation to busy weekend practices, this period truly tested and highlighted the commitment of both the cadets and staff in our team. What we could have never predicted, however, was just how amazingly this hard work would pay off!

For the first time in 2488 Kingswinford history, our squadron emerged as the overall victors of the day. We took home gold trophies for Foot Drill, Smartest Squadron, Leadership, Cyber, and Solo Drummer. We also secured second place in First Aid, NCO IC, Space, and Continuity Drill—a competition we had never entered before—and placed third in Media.

The day itself was a fantastic opportunity to reunite with friends from around the wing while engaging in some healthy competition. We were also fortunate to enjoy some glorious weather as we polished parade shoes, cheered on our peers, and hurried off to our events. Winning brought an incredible sense of pride and excitement, alongside the overwhelming camaraderie of being a 2488 cadet. The coach journey back to the squadron was certainly a loud one!

Not only did this victory cement us as the best squadron in West Mercian Wing RAFAC for 2026, but it also secured our spot at the Regional Activity Day, which took place last weekend.

Every ticket purchased is a step toward saving a life, bringing us together for a night of legendary memories that will support Prostate Cancer UK in their vital fight against a disease that affects so many of our fathers, brothers, and friends.

This is your chance to stand side-by-side with your community at the Royal British Legion, Kingswinford on Thursday, 8 October to honor football history while making a profound, real-world difference.

With only 130 seats available, this intimate evening is a rare opportunity to share stories, look back on incredible achievements, and prove just how much can be accomplished when a community rallies behind a great cause.

On Sunday, 13th September, we once again gathered in Dudley to celebrate and give gratitude to the RAF service women and men who exhibited bravery, selflessness and gave their lives to defend our country during the Battle of Britain.
We were joined by our fellow sector 3 squadrons, 223 (Halesowen), 451 (Stourbridge), 347 (Dudley) and 156 (Kidderminster), as well as cadets and staff from Old Swinford Hospital CCF and 888 (Oldbury) and 2312 (Sedgley) from Staffordshire Wing. We were also supported by West Mercia Wing OC Wing Commander Ross McElligot, the Lord Lieutenant for the West Midlands, Derrick Anderson CBE, the Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley, Mr and Mrs Lowe and MP for Dudley, Sonia Kumar.
Alongside one another and led by our sector band, we paraded through the streets of Dudley to the Coronation Gardens. Once we arrived, we reflected on the events of the Battle of Britain through a service directed by our Squadron Padre, Father Adam Hadley, listening to various readings, observing a moment of remembrance and laying wreaths at the cenotaph.
Together, we acknowledged the importance of keeping the memory of the Battle of Britian alive and the duty we possess as Air Cadets to show appreciation for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. It was a privilege to be joined by so many others in our community who helped make the service one that honoured those brave individuals.

✈️ Join 1002 (Ross On Wye) Squadron! ✈️

We are hosting an open evening on Friday 18th September. If you are aged 12 and in Year 8, up to 17 years old, come along and see what we do.

Learn new skills, gain qualifications, fly a plane and make new friends, among so many other opportunities we can offer.

Come along to the squadron on Alton Road, Ross-on-Wye, HR9 5WA 6.30 - 9.30 to meet the cadets and staff, have a look at some of the activies we do on a parade night and hear all about what the Air Cadets can do for you.

Going Out With a Bang! 🎉✈️

Well, where to begin… 4 years at 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron has come to an end for our very own Sgt E Richards.

Throughout the years, she has developed not only as a person, but also as an NCO. From achieving the rank of Corporal in 2024, she has grabbed as many opportunities as possible throughout her time with us. 🎖️

Continuing with cadets during and after her exams is also an achievement in itself. We congratulate her on smashing her recent A-levels and then returning to cadets for a final, bittersweet month. 📚👏

A select few of her achievements include:

🥾 Blue → Gold Road Marching in the space of just 7 months, including attending Nijmegen 2025.

🧭 Silver Leadership & First Aid, both achieved in one week during Exercise Rose Dragon 2025.

🥁 Silver Music, following her dedicated service to our band and her progression from tenor to bass drummer.

✈️ Summer Camp at RAF Boulmer, creating plenty of memories and experiences along the way.

…and many more fantastic achievements! 🌟

I think we all owe her a massive thank you for her commitment, dedication and drive, leaving behind a fantastic legacy at 2488. 💙

On her final night, she left us with some words of wisdom:

“Take every opportunity possible, make new friends and don’t regret anything.”

Thank you, Sgt Richards, for everything you have given to 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron. We wish you all the very best for the future and whatever comes next! 🎉✈️
