Is it a plane? Yes! But it’s also Air Chief Marshal Sir Harv Smyth!

What a legendary time our cadets had last weekend at Cosford Airshow! Not only were eyes in the sky, but also on the ground for our incredible cadets who took part in the Wing Band performance, requiring skill, precision and dedication over a number of weeks training; it was truly amazing to watch it come together. Well done!

We also had a group of cadets who brought their cameras with them - taking incredible photos of the aircraft on display. From Typhoons and Chinooks to the RAFAC’s very own Tutor display team, they eagerly captured their every move!!

Finally as our cadets explored the hangers, we came across one of the most surreal parts of the day - meeting Air Chief Marshal Sir Harv Smyth.
Our cadets had a conversation with him and even a photo, it was an honour meeting him and they described it as ‘a key moment in our cadet career’!

Now, enjoy a post filled with photos taken by our cadets at 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron! It really shows how skills are stretched beyond the syllabus in cadets, and inspires other hobbies too! RAF Typhoon Display Team RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team

On Sunday 7th June, cadets from 2488 Kingswinford Air Cadet Squadron took part in Wing athletics at RAF Cosford . Representing the squadron with pride, determination and excellent team spirit.
Competing in a variety of track and field events, where we had some medals won in 100m , high jump and relay . Our cadets pushed themselves to do their very best, supported one another throughout the day and demonstrated the values of the RAF Air Cadets in everything they did. The event was a great opportunity to build confidence, challenge themselves and make lasting memories.

On Thursday, 2488 were joined by PC Wayne Trueman, Dog Handler for West Midlands Police, accompanied by Riot the Belgian Malinois and Nate the Labrador. The Cadets listened to a talk on what work is like as a part of the Police Dog Unit, before a demonstration of the dog’s training and skills. Very special thank you to our visitors, who not only protect the area, but also gave up their free time in order to demonstrate the skills and danger they are under while serving our community, we loved having you, hopefully inspiring many to pursue work in the Police or other uniformed careers!
PS: Keep a look out for PC Trueman on Channel 5’s “Police Interceptors” coming next year...

completed our first ever Squadron Inter-Flight Competition Camp at MOD Parsons Barracks, Donnington, Telford.

Typhoon and Lightning Flights were spit into sections and battled it out over the weekend in the scorching heat with drill competition, sports, leadership, flight simulators, drones and a quiz night.

We were joined by our Recruit Training Flight (Hawk Flight) who completed their blue space, blue radio and blue leadership badges.

We were also pleased to have a member of staff (PO Jones) and a few Cadets from who joined in with the competition and activities.

We even found time to do some training with some new members of staff!

A great weekend, which we will certainly repeat in 2027.

Thanks to our Wing Sector Officer Sqn Ldr Buckland, CI Clair Rivers-Boyden from , PO Lewis Jones from 1047 (City of Wolverhampton) Sqn and all the incredibly hard-working staff and Cadets at 2488.

OPERATION 500 - RAISING FUNDS FOR RAFA

Join the Cadets and staff of 2488 (Kingswinford) Squadron ATC to raise funds for the Royal Air Forces Association in conjunction with V50 2026 from Monday 27 April to Sunday 3 May.

The Squadron’s adopted song is Craig & Charlie Reid’s band ‘The Proclaimers’ hit single “I’m Gonna Be (500 miles)”, so as a Squadron, we’re going to complete ‘OPERATION 500’ - a combined total of 500 miles to raise a minimum of £500.

Every donation of £12 means that the RAFA V50 team will supply one of our Cadet’s taking part with a V50 sports shirt and at the same time, support our RAF veterans. So dig deep and help the Squadron raise £500 for the RAFA!

You can sponsor the Cadet via the JustGiving page ahead of the week. Just use the Cadet’s surname so we can track who’s raised the most as the Cadet who raises the most money will be awarded an official RAF Space Command badge and an RAFA ATC teddy!!!!

It’s easy to donate, just visit justgiving.com/page/2488sqnatc or scan the QR code to donate £12 or more!!

All proceeds go straight to RAFA and will help give vital support to the RAF community and veterans.
