Kingswear Community Orchard

Yesterday 30 volunteers of Kingswear Community Orchard Group met to have a BBQ and celebrate the beginning of the harvest and also to enjoy the fruits of their hard work over the year participating in working parties to maintain and enhance the Orchard. In previous years we have successfully shared the plums by asking people to take about 30 each but this year we planned to gather some in and make a large crumble. Very sadly on Sunday we found the plum tree had been totally stripped, and also a nearby Mirabelle plum tree that had about 30 very unripe plums. This happened between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning. We are very upset.

On 2nd March we found a dry day to burn all the brash we had gathered last month.

On 8th Feb eight of us helped clear the bank on the left going down to the shed. tony was on the brush cutter and it took seven of us to clear it all away. We made a big pile on the bank to the left of the steps

On 25th January 14 volunteers, a fantastic turnout, gathered to clear up the orchard. We achieved a lot: cleared round the trees and mulched with seaweed, weeded under the hedge, moved the quince to the back of the orchard, cleared the spring bulb site by the bench and due to numbers we were able to clear the sunny bank to the left if the steps. We finished with enjoying stolen, mince pies and coffee. A very satusfying two hours.
