⭐ ⭐ THROWBACK THURSDAY ⭐ ⭐

This Throwback Thursday we are remembering when Kingston Hospital Charity funded the Faxitron, a specialist imaging system used during breast cancer surgery.

The Faxitron allows for immediate specimen imaging during surgery, giving surgeons real-time confirmation that a tumour has been fully removed, right there in the operating theatre. That means fewer patients needing to return for additional procedures, and that means less anxiety, fewer hospital visits and better outcomes.

The numbers speak for themselves: on average, the Faxitron cuts operating times by up to 60 minutes per session, a reduction of around 25%. That's time given back to patients and time freed for clinical teams. For anyone going through breast cancer treatment, the reassurance of knowing their surgeon has every tool they need to get it right, first time is essential. 💙

Can you help us? 🙏

In a major trauma emergency, when a patient needs large volumes of blood urgently, the speed and precision of that transfusion can be the difference between life and death.

Right now, Kingston Hospital's Emergency Department does this process manually. Each blood bag on a separate line.
Each bag manually pressurised.
And because blood must be warmed before transfusion to avoid dangerous complications, the current warming device slows everything down, and can only handle one bag at a time.

The Belmont Rapid Infuser changes everything. 💙

This one device can warm and infuse three bags of blood simultaneously, delivering up to 750ml per minute, reaching ideal body temperature instantly, and ready to use in just 60 seconds. No additional warming device needed and no manual pressure bags. Just fast, precise, life-saving care, and critically it frees the skilled resus nurses who currently manage this process to focus entirely on the patient in front of them.

We are raising £24,000 to fund this device for Kingston Hospital's Emergency Department. Will you help us get there?

Seeing surgery through the surgeon's eyes 🎥

Imagine being a surgical trainee and seeing a complex operation exactly as the surgeon does- every angle, every decision, in real time.

That's now a reality at Kingston Hospital, thanks to a headlight-mounted surgical camera introduced to our ENT and Head & Neck service, made possible through the generous support of The Grace Trust.

The device attaches directly to the operating surgeon's headlamp, capturing a true first-person view of procedures like thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy. Unlike traditional overhead cameras, it shows trainees precisely what the surgeon sees at every moment: the anatomy, the fine technique and the split-second decisions that define great surgical care.

The result? Faster skill development, greater confidence, and ultimately safer outcomes for patients, both now and in the future.

Thank you to The Grace Trust for making it possible. 💙
