We are a not-for-profit social marketing agency (doing marketing for the wellbeing of society) based in Kingston upon Thames with strong links to the community in which we work. Through creative activities, Quilombo UK seeks to challenge people to THINK DIFFERENTLY in order to connect communities and build a culturally rich, homely society where differences are not just accepted, but celebrated. O
ur name Quilombo comes from the Brazilian word used to describe the settlement of freed slaves. The place where those who fled captivity came together with those brave enough to think differently and disagree with slavery. Together they formed one community, alive with culture, music, dance and life. At Quilombo UK, we are thinking differently and:
- Uniting the community to create a shared set of values.
- Promoting mutual respect in the community and educating about race diversity and equality.
- Running a Volunteer Programme working with the community and Educational & Training Providers. INSPIRE
To promote different arts, sports and cultures to encourage an inter-cultural understanding between different communities and societies; To promote cultural awareness in the community and educate, regardless of nationality or origin, about race diversity and mutual respect; To promote good health and wellbeing; and to run a community organisation with a strong focus on individuals, the community and society as a whole. WHY THE COMMUNITY NEEDS US
Through the year our organisation provides opportunities bring together people from all different parts of the community, uniting them in a performance, an activity, or an idea. Our events and workshops create environments to give people of all backgrounds the chance to thrive together and respect diversity with a common sense of belonging. We believe that through our work we give people better life chances and help to create stronger communities full of healthier and more active people. OUR IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY
Last year we hosted 11 separate events as part of our "Celebrating Freedom" project. 700 people were impacted by our project and 100s took part in our workshops and activities, joining together to create a performance. It was a huge success attended by Kingston upon Thames Deputy Mayor, local councillors and picked up by local media.
