Join is research fron the Young People's Mental Health Research Centre

The Care Responders study is actively recruiting children and young people (CYP), parents/caregivers, and professionals across the UK. Our aim is to improve mental health crisis care for CYP by understanding how services are currently working and what really makes a difference for young people and families.

We are listening to these experiences through interviews, focus groups, and survey responses, and it’s important that we hear from different voices who have accessed crisis mental health services or supported a young person who has.

📣Have your say on School attendance and anxiety. London region are looking for families whose children are not currently able to be in school. The 'Unseen Children' survey will look at the experiences of families of children and young people who are struggling with school attendance or have come off the school roll as a result of anxiety-related issues. We are aiming to understand more about how this happens, what support is needed, and the wider impacts, including on family life.

We’re sharing this for any parent carers who might not know that you have a legal right to a Parent Carer Needs Assessment (PCNA). This assessment looks specifically at your needs as a carer (not just your child’s) and what support would help you stay well and continue caring

A PCNA can help you think about:

▪️how caring affects your health and wellbeing

▪️what support you need day‑to‑day

▪️how to balance caring with work, family life, and your own needs

▪️what services or help could make things easier

Achieving for Children must carry out an assessment if it appears you may need support, or if you request one. They then create a personal support plan that signposts you to the help available locally.

If your child is under 18 and you provide unpaid care, be that practical or emotional, you are eligible.

If you haven’t been offered an assessment but feel you would benefit from one, you can request one through any professional working with your family such as a member from school, your GP, or through the Single Point of Access Early Help team:
https://bit.ly/4vtlBmy

You’re not expected to carry everything alone. This assessment is there to support you as a parent carer

▪️Kingston Eco‑Op – activities that build confidence and wellbeing for adults with additional needs.

▪️Connected Kingston – a social‑prescribing platform helping people find local services that keep them healthy, supported, and connected.

▪️Digital, Data & Tech Support – helping community groups build digital skills and get the right tech setup.

Money worries can add so much extra pressure when you’re caring for someone

StepChange is a national debt charity. They offer free, confidential support that helps people manage, reduce, or write-off debt. They offer clear & personalised advice, step-by-step guidance, and follow-up with you to help you get back in control, all without judgement

If you’re looking after someone and juggling financial strain on top of everything else, you don’t have to face it alone. You do not need to be receiving any benefits, or even be a carer. Support is there, and it’s free.

Carersweek.org have created these free resources available for unpaid carers, and we wanted to share it so it can reach the right families.

We know not everyone identifies as being an unpaid carer, so this resource might help those parent carers who would benefit from support but are not quite ready to (or feel deserving of) identifying as a carer

The QR code takes you to practical support for carers: information about getting help, understanding your rights, looking after your own wellbeing, and finding some key services that can make day‑to‑day caring a little easier
