Kickstart TYA cancer support

We have seen from experience how hard cancer can be both physically and emotionally, and for teenagers and young adults it can be especially hard. They should be at college or university, going to gigs, travelling, starting careers, on holiday with friends, playing sport (and let’s be honest – on the internet, playing computer games, and drinking!). These should

be the most exciting years of their lives and instead they are trying to cope with cancer, gruelling treatment, isolation from friends and family, and the changes that cancer may have to their future. In 2011 The Teenage Cancer Trust set up a small specialist TYA Cancer Unit for the area, which means that young adults with cancer can be treat alongside people their own age, with specialist staff, within a local unit tailored to them. We want to build on that support and work closely with the staff and the patients to tailor our support by hosting and providing funding or grants for activities, workshops, seminars and events, to help young adults through their treatment and recovery. We want to help them get back in control, both outside of and within the Unit. We want to help them do what they want and need to, to kick start their lives again.
