Some of you will have seen a new page regarding the Avenues Centre set up by CIME in the last couple of weeks (but now disbanded), about the idea of a community hub at the Avenues Centre.
As you will be aware, this has been a long-term aim of ACSG, and we have been working steadily towards it since the early days of 2014 after your support enabled our campaign to stop the building from being sold off or demolished. Listing followed in 2016, and for a while, we seemed to have a future working with the Goodwin trust. However, since Goodwin’s decision to withdraw from their lease of the building we have been working directly and happily with Hull City council to further the future of the centre. Currently, the improvements and repairs are entering Phase 2 and we are hoping to have some consultative input into the exciting plans for the prospective community hub, preferably including a much-enhanced library moved from Chanterlands library on which public consultation is imminent, any link to which will be shared here. Arrangements for the building under Phase 2 cannot take place till 2024 when Adult Education relocate.
We would like to reassure you that ACSG is still working with Hull City Council and that unless you hear otherwise directly from the council any arrangements you have with them are still in place. We are at present liaising closely with Rob Pritchard, Portfolio holder for Communities and Culture, and will keep you informed of any developments as they arise, possibly including through a public meeting.
We also have a wider support group which you can join by direct messaging us then you will receive occasional informative emails detailing our activities.
Of course, the sooner we can get a community hub into the Avenues Centre, the better. But the timeline shown here will give you some idea of how long and complicated the road has been, dealing with an old, Council owned building over the last nine years, to bring us to a point when we are within sight of it happening.
