Reflecting on some of the amazing work we've been involved in this year alongside incredible community groups đź’ś

Back in March, Forum CIO staff Linda Conway and Alex Zaharia had the privilege of joining the International Women's Day celebrations at Welcome House.

The event was filled with warmth, inspiration and celebration, bringing together women from all walks of life. We heard powerful stories of resilience, courage and hope from women from Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and enjoyed a wonderful performance from the Hull Community Voices Choir, whose music brought everyone together in celebration.

A huge thank you to the team at Welcome House for creating such a thoughtful and welcoming event, and for making every attendee feel valued and appreciated.

We're proud to work alongside organisations that create opportunities for people to connect, share their experiences and celebrate the diversity and strength of our communities.

NEW PROJECT LAUNCH 🙌

We’re excited to be working with Sport England and This Girl Can to explore the barriers Muslim women face when accessing physical activity and sport.

Yesterday, we joined our partners at Forum CIO for the first engagement session, creating a space to listen, learn, and better understand the experiences of women facing these challenges.

The insights gathered during this session, alongside future engagement activities, will help shape our understanding and inform the development of more inclusive and accessible opportunities for women across our communities.

It was a fantastic and insightful day, with valuable conversations and perspectives shared throughout. We’re looking forward to the next session and continuing this important work together. A big thank you to our partners at Forum for facilitating and delivering such a meaningful session👏.

A great turnout today at the Safeguarding for Communities Conference in Hull. It’s been brilliant to bring together community voices, people with lived experience, and safeguarding professionals to share ideas, learn from one another, and have important conversations that will help shape more inclusive and responsive safeguarding across the city.

Thank you to Giroscope Hull for hosting us in their beautiful venue!

Our colleagues Jo and Vicki recently visited Friends of Hull’s Fishing Heritage Centre, which works to preserve and share the rich history of Hull’s fishing industry.

The Hull Fishing Heritage Centre provides information, artefacts, and resources that help people understand the important role fishing has played in shaping Hull’s identity and heritage. It was wonderful to learn more about the stories, people, and traditions behind this vital part of the city’s history.

Community Navigation Team

We’re excited to spotlight one of our projects Community Navigation Hull that’s all about connecting local people with the support, activities and opportunities that help them thrive.

Our Community Navigators are out and about across Hull, offering one-to-one, face-to-face support to help people:

- Discover and join community activities like walking groups, lunch clubs and skills workshops
- Link with health and wellbeing support services
- Find volunteering or training opportunities
- Navigate services related to housing, employment, digital skills and more

It’s all about making meaningful connections and improving wellbeing by helping people find what’s out there and feel supported every step of the way.

If you or someone you know could benefit, get in touch and let’s explore what’s possible together!
