In the spirit of showing the downs as well as the ups, here are some of our not-so-success stories on the market garden this season 🤔 It’s been so challenging with the mega high temperatures & lack of rain, first up is bitter cucumbers, anyone else been suffering this? Not just slightly bitter, sooooo bitter, immediately have to spit out bitter 😳 Thankfully now the weather is cooler we seem to have turned a corner & finally have some delicious sweet tasting cucs, but sadly an awful lot did end up on the compost heap 😔 Next up pesky pests, flea beetle, aphids, mainly on brassicas, due to heat the plants are struggling & are more likely to be attacked. We need some rain! 🙏🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻 And our lettuce have also been struggling, not a fan of the heat & also really need a lot of water to keep them happy. So lots of bolting lettuce but they fed the chickens so at least they were happy 🐓 Mega solidarity with all gardeners & growers having a tough season, it’s not easy, despite insta telling you otherwise 😉
