Our volunteer crew was tasked following a report of a possible person entering the water at Kirkcaldy promenade.

A comprehensive search of the area was undertaken along with Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team and Leven CRT, Police Scotland Fife and helicopter Rescue 899 from Prestwick. After nearly 3 hours of searching and with nothing found, the search was called off.

After washing and refuelling the lifeboat and debriefing, our crew got home around 2am on Sunday morning.

An 18' fishing boat ran aground on a rock outcrop at Prestonpans.

When we arrived on scene, the boat was out of the water by around one metre. We took the one person on board onto the lifeboat and took him ashore where Fisherrow Coastguard was waiting to assist.

Following a report of a possible person clinging to a buoy at Hawkcraig point, Aberdour. We made best speed to the scene and located the buoy and confirmed that it was a smaller black and yellow buoy beside a larger orange buoy which had been misidentified.

Following concern for a paddleboarder off Seafield, the lifeboat launched to check they were not in any difficulty. After a brief check, the paddleboarder did not require assistance and continued on his way.

The lifeboat was tasked following a report of a sunken vessel near Gosford Bay. Our colleagues from RNLI North Berwick Lifeboat also attended and we worked together to assess the casualty vessel and then to search the area for anyone potentially in the water.

Following a search of the area and further investigation by the coastguard, it was determined that no one was in difficulty and all assets were stood down.

Women in SAR weekend

Three of our team from Kinghorn took part in the event at Dunbar, Eyemouth and St Abbs lifeboat stations.

Over 40 women from 24 lifeboat stations came together for a full weekend of afloat and shore-based exercises, skills workshops and shared learning to connect, inspire and support women involved in maritime rescue.

The initiative is the second of its kind in Scotland, after an inaugural event in Inverness last year. Launched in 2019 by the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF), Women in SAR is a global movement open to all lifeboat stations, including the RNLI and independent operations.

We had our annual family barbecue at the beach yesterday. It was lovely to have many of the crew together and we then had the obligatory game of highly competitive rounders on the beach!

Along with great weather, a flyover by a RAF chinook, and a great display by some passing dolphins, it was a day to remember.

However, our duty crew was tasked during the event at 1752 following a report of three children on a paddleboard off Musselburgh but fortunately they made ashore safely and we were stood down as we passed Inchkeith.

We also need to say another huge thank you to Tom Courts Quality Foods Limited who once again donated the meat for the barbecue.

Today, trainee tractor driver Jim took our rig through the slalom course on the beach while our lifeboat was out training, and then went out to recover them when they were finished.

Do you live or work in Kinghorn, and think you can handle our rig around the cones and safely launch our lifeboat in all weathers? Be like Jim - get in touch and offer your time to help us save lives at sea

Saturday 29th August @ 1758

We were tasked to Silverknowes, Edinburgh, following a report of a dog having jumped over the seawall and fallen some 4m onto rock armour below.

Whilst en-route to the scene, we were advised that a member of the public had also entered the water to get to the dog.

We arrived to find the man and a Bernese Mountain dog on the rock armour at the base of the wall. We were able to approach the casualties and put the bow of the lifeboat on the rocks and get both onboard.

Both were ok, with only a few scuffs from the rocks. We took them to nearby steps and landed them ashore.

We were then stood down to return to station to prepare the lifeboat for the next launch.

Our volunteer crew was paged this afternoon following a report of concern for a kayaker off Seton Sands.

We were on scene 20 minutes after launch having made best speed across slight, occasionally moderate conditions. After a short search of the area, the kayaker was spotted near Craigielaw Point safe and well and paddling back to his launch point.

As there was a distance to go, we took the paddler and his kayak on board and returned to Longniddry Bents no.3 car park where North Berwick Coastguard Rescue Team was waiting to support and provide advice.

Our volunteer crew was tasked to assist a boat which had run out of fuel off Burntisland. We were soon on scene and alongside the RIB with three adults and two young children on board. After assessing the situation we elected to tow the boat into Burntisland. The crew of the boat were well equipped but had underestimated fuel for their day out.

We were paged to come to immediate readiness by the coastguard to support an incident upriver. Fortunately, the situation was safely resolved and we were stood down at 2252 without launching.

Thursday 30th July

55/2026 @ 0825
We were tasked to small vessel off Methil which had broken down and was taking on water. The boat, with two people on board, was towed into Methil harbour.

56/2026 @ 1854
Our pagers sounded for a second time following multiple reports of a kayaker in difficulty off Kirkcaldy.

Our volunteer crew was soon on scene and with the help of Kinghorn Coastguard Rescue Team who had eyes-on the casualty, we located what turned out to be a small inflatable toy dinghy over one mile offshore with one person on board. The person and dinghy were taken on board the lifeboat and taken back to shore.

The RNLI advises that inflatable toys and dinghies are not designed for open water or the beach because even a light breeze can quickly sweep them out to sea as happened in this case.

Safety Rules for the Beach and Open Water:

🛟Choose a RNLI Lifeguards Scotland lifeguarded beach (Aberdour Silver Sands, Burntisland, Leven, Elie, St Andrews East and West beaches, Broughty Ferry, and Coldingham)

🛟Check the wind: Never use an inflatable when an orange windsock is flying, which signals dangerous offshore winds that blow objects out to sea.

🛟Stay close: Remain extremely close to the shore, supervise children at all times, and only use inflatables on lifeguarded beaches between the red and yellow flags.

🛟Use a tether: Tie a safety line from the inflatable to someone holding the anchor point securely on the dry land.

🛟Wear buoyancy aids: Always wear a properly fitted lifejacket or buoyancy aid.

🛟Carry a phone: Keep a mobile phone or communication device inside a waterproof bag.

What to Do in an Emergency?
🛟Stay with the craft: If you get swept out or find yourself in trouble, stay with your inflatable dinghy because it helps rescue teams spot you much faster.

🚨Call 999: If you see anyone in difficulty in the water or drifting away, call 999 immediately and ask for the Coastguard
