Oxburgh Estate - National Trust

Oxburgh Estate - National Trust No-one ever forgets their first sight of Oxburgh - a romantic, moated manor house. No one forgets their first sight of Oxburgh.
(1)

Built in 1482 by the Catholic Bedingfeld family, it is the enduring legacy of their survival through turbulent times. There are 500 years of history to explore and hidden doors, rooftop views and a secret priest's hole to discover. Victorian Gothic interiors reflect a romantic view of Oxburgh's medieval past. The collections include embroideries worked by Mary, Queen of Scots, and colourful wallpa

pers from the mid-19th century. The moated Hall is surrounded by nearly 28 hectares (70 acres), containing gardens with seasonal interest, streams and woodland walks. Dogs are welcome in the garden and woodland.

Our new exhibition 'A Regency Romance' has landed just in time for Valentines Day! We are so excited to finally be able to share it with you!

In 2025, we began work restoring portraits painted of Regency era Oxburgh couple Thomas and Agnes Molyneux Seel, depicting the couple whilst they were on their honeymoon in Europe. Once we had begun to delve into their history, we found an intriguing love story befitting of a Bridgeton script!

Now reunited, the couple are at the centre of our new exhibition will be open daily inside Oxburgh Hall daily from Valentines Day. With the portrait of Agnes shining in her new handmade, red-listed heritage craft frame alongside extracts from letters and a waltz tutorial, you can immerse yourself in a Regency Romance and meet their restored portraits in person.
