Rotary Club of Kings Lynn

Rotary Club of Kings Lynn The main objective of Rotary is service. The Rotary motto is 'Service Above Self', and whilst doing this we also have fun and make lots of new friends!

Rotary is an organisation of business, professional and community leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs. Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the comm

unity's business and professional men and women, as well as community leaders. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all.

Feeding Fenland
On 11 May 2026 the Club speaker was Chrissie Hobbs from the charity Feeding Fenland. From small beginnings serving meals in a car park in Wisbech, in 2025 some 50,000 meals were provided. On average about 170 meals are served each night, six days a week. The food is home cooked on a rota basis by some 80 volunteers. The chief costs are for paper plates, plastic cups and disposable cutlery, as most of the food is supplied by supermarkets and other organisations. The meals are now provided from a primary school in Wisbech.

Donation to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)
At a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of King’s Lynn Kate Craven, the Visits Officer and Water Safety Lead at the Old Hunstanton RNLI station, gave a most interesting talk on the work of the charity and specifically on the part played by the local station which has nearly 40 volunteers and which deals with some 40 calls for assistance each year, the majority of which are from kite surfers. The station has both a lifeboat and a hovercraft, one of only seven used by the RNLI. It is important because of the shallow-water rescues the crews sometimes have to deal with. The RNLI, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2024, has some 458 lifeboats in the fleet, 163 of which can be used in all weathers.
At the meeting Kate was presented with some £80 in 5p coins which members had been collecting in small jars. However, a further donation of £250 will be made when members visit the local HQ at Hunstanton in February.
