Colzium House
Colzium House located in the centre of the beautiful Colzium Estate in Kilsyth will be open as part of our involvement with Doors Open Day in Scotland. The history of Colzium House and its predecessor Colzium Castle dates back several hundred year back to the 15th Century. The Castle was demolished by the 3rd Viscount of Kilsyth in 1703. Colzium house was built in 1783 and enlarged in 1861 but partly demolished in 1940's leaving the beautiful house we now have today. Renovations in the house started on 1st September 2025 where the two ceremony/function rooms are being completely renovated with further renovations to take place in the house over the next few years. It is and will continue to be a significant wedding and conference centre. A visual presentation and display boards will show the proposed works.
Members from the Royal Oak Society will be present in full Jacobite dress with replica weapons to show and discuss how closely the Jacobite movement was connected to Colzium House and Estate.
Colzium museum will be open and some new exhibits have put in position by North Lanarkshire Council Museum Service.
There will be activities in the main hall for children staffed by the NLC Museum outreach education staff from Summerlee Museum.
Colzium Visitors centre and cafe will be open with a good selection of hot food and drinks and by any chance the sun is shining they also have a good selection of ice cream and lollies.
The Estate has some significant feature such as the Walled Garden, Ice House, Grannies Mutch, the first competitive curling pond built in the world and many other areas and items to explore.
