Our Eco Explorers continue to be very busy learning of ways to improve the environment.

Last week they'd made little 'windowsill' greenhouses sprouting chickpea seeds to show you don't need special equipment to make things grow. We have our very own 'Monty Don' in Ada whose peas are sprouting brilliantly :)

Continuing in our efforts to reduce dog fouling in Kilmarnock, this week the group designed posters to put in Kay Park asking dog owners to clean up after their pets. These fab efforts were created by Louise, Enid and Ada.

Want to learn how to make delicious coffee then why not come along to one of our Introduction to Coffee sessions.

These sessions are back for September and October and we are opening up spaces to anyone aged 15+. Spaces are limited to 5 people per session.

Great if you want gain a new skill or simply a reason to make and drink some delicious coffee while hanging out with friends.

The sessions all run from 4.30pm-6pm and the following dates are available:

Tuesday 8th September
Thursday 17th September
Thursday 24th September

Monday 5th October
Monday 12th October
Monday 19th October
Monday 26th October

🍎🥧 Ever wondered where the apples in Enza’s delicious homemade apple pie come from? 👀

Well, they’re grown right here at the YMCA! 🌳🍎

Our lovely community garden has its very own apple tree, and those apples are making their way from tree to table and into Enza’s amazing homemade apple pie, available at the Kilmarnock YMCA Café on Fridays! 😍🥧

And we’ve got a plum tree too! 🍑🌳

So now we need your help… what should Enza make with our plums?

Plum crumble? Jam? Chutney? Something completely different?

We’re back for Fresh Food Friday!✨

This week, as well as our regular menu, we’re serving freshly baked potatoes with the choice of:

🥔Beans & cheese
🥔Homemade bolognaise

We’ll also have freshly baked scones in fruit, plain or strawberry and back by popular demand, our homemade apple pie! 🍎🥧

Plus, enjoy our usual selection of tray bakes and of course, the finest coconut truffles in Ayrshire. All perfectly accompanied by the ever popular Rocket Monkey Coffee! ☕️

A little late in posting but our last summer camp session had the young people making beautiful little gift bags out of waste paper. Isla's design was especially colourful as she was making this for a special occasion. The group also made little wildflower seed bombs to help encourage climate change-busting areas of beautiful insect feeders :)

📚✨ OUR TAKE A BOOK, LEAVE A BOOK LIBRARY IS NOW OPEN! ✨📚

We’re so excited to announce that our Take a Book, Leave a Book library is officially OPEN! 🎉

👧📖 Kids can take a book, read it, enjoy it and return it when they’re finished.

Or, if they have books at home they’ve already enjoyed and would like to share with other children, they can leave them in our bookcase for someone else to discover! 💛

It’s all about sharing stories, discovering new adventures and helping books find new homes! 🌟📚

A HUGE thank you to our amazing Men’s Shed for building the bookcase from scratch — what a fantastic job! 👏🔨

A special thank you also goes to Barnardo’s Kilmarnock for helping us stock the shelves with some fantastic books! 📚💛

Your support has helped us get our little library off to a brilliant start, and we’re sure our young readers are going to love discovering all the stories waiting for them! 🌟📖

And a big thank you to our wonderful volunteer James, who put the finishing touches to it with a fresh coat of paint! 🎨🙌
