Killin Youth Project is a Killin and Ardeonaig Community Development Trust (KAT) project offering youth work activity sessions to young people from P6 - S3, providing access to a wide range of activities for young people and promoting well being. The project aims to improve physical, mental and emotional wellbeing in children and young people, preventing separation from their peers and community,
and creating a safe space for them to flourish. Weekly sessions run every Wednesday during term time and various seasonal activities through programmes during school holidays. Killin Youth Project is person led and designed around young people's choices, encouraging young people involved to problem solve, collaborate and make decisions as a group. Through fun and creative youth group activity sessions, building relationships and communication we encourage young people to recognise their strengths and develop skills. We continue to focus on the individual as a whole, promoting positive attributes and improving well-being. By providing a varied programme of activities and a framework structure that supports each young person from a place of safety and trust we can support young people to focus on strengths such as teamwork, confidence and creativity. The development of our youth forum within the project allows us to connect with the voice of the wider youth community, giving them autonomy and capacity building within the wider community. The youth forum provides an opportunity for young people leaving youth group sessions to still engage with the project, develop sessions, and design extra activities they would like for children and young people within the community. Building on leadership, young people are supported to become young leaders within the project to allow them to make a valuable contribution to the community and Killin Youth Project, developing their skills further. We evaluate or provision using 3 outcomes which have been developed with young people engaging in the project to ensure we are meeting their needs. Children and young people, living rurally, have access to activities and opportunities to
socialise and reduce isolation.
