🇬🇧 Victory in Europe – 81 Years On 🇬🇧

Today, we mark 81 years since Victory in Europe Day, when the guns fell silent across Europe and the Second World War in Europe came to an end.

VE Day was a moment of celebration, relief and hope, but it was also a time to remember the enormous sacrifice made by so many. We remember all those who served, those who never came home, and those whose lives were changed forever by war.

As we reflect on 81 years since that historic day, we remain thankful for the courage, resilience and service of the wartime generation.

We will remember them.

🇬🇧 VE Day Brew and a Bite 🇬🇧

Join us this Saturday 9th May, from 10am to 1pm, at St Giles Church Hall, Sheepcote Road, for our VE Day Brew and a Bite.

Come along for a cuppa, a bite to eat, and a chance to mark VE Day together as a community.

Last week, our Chairman and two members of the committee attended the Killamarsh Community Awards after learning we had been nominated.

We’re incredibly proud to share that we were awarded Community Organisation of the Year.

A huge thank you to everyone in the community for your continued support, not just this year but over the many years we’ve been part of Killamarsh.

This weekend our Standard Bearer, Esther, attended the Birmingham International Tattoo to parade with the Massed Parade of Standards from various RBL branches, associations and cadet forces.

It was an incredible event and a powerful moment of remembrance, representing unity and continued support for our Armed Forces community.

Thank you for representing the Royal British Legion Killamarsh Branch with pride on such a fantastic national stage.

Last night, members and their guests came together for our Annual Meal at The Travellers Rest Highmoor – and what a brilliant evening it was!

With 24 people in attendance, it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces (and a few plus ones!) enjoying great food, great company and plenty of laughter. Events like this are such a lovely reminder that we’re not just an organisation – we’re a community.

A special mention must go to Harold Laws, our resident raffle ticket salesman, who once again worked the room like a professional! Thanks to his efforts, the raffle raised just under £59 – a fantastic contribution.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable evening. We’re already looking forward to the next one!

📣 RBL Killamarsh Branch – First Meeting of 2026 🇬🇧

We’re pleased to confirm that our first meeting of 2026 will be held on Tuesday 13th January at 1930hrs at the Nethergreen Working Men’s Club.

As always, everyone is welcome. You do not need to have served in the Armed Forces or have any direct links to attend. If you’re interested in supporting the work of the Royal British Legion, getting involved in the community, or simply want to come along and see what we do, we would love to see you.

New faces are always welcome!
