The Well

The Well The Well delivers community-based su***de prevention, crisis response, and awareness programmes.

Our work focuses on early intervention, accessibility, and real-world outcomes. The Well is a grass roots su***de prevention chairty which endeavours to drive forward change within Kilkeel and the surrounding areas to support and maintain the wellbeing of our community. We believe the right support at the right time should be available and accessible for everyone in times of crisis. We strive to create a supportive community where our su***de rate is Zero.

βš½πŸ’œ COMMUNITY MAKING A DIFFERENCE πŸ’œβš½

A huge thank you to Serenity Running Club and Annalong FC for raising an incredible Β£1,205 for The Well through their recent charity football event.

Thank you to Annalong FC for hosting the event and providing fantastic food and hospitality, and to Serenity Running Club for choosing to support su***de preventionβ€”a cause that isn't always easy to talk about, but one that matters deeply.

A special thank you to David Taylor & Annalong FC Committee Member and Youth Team Coach, and Ronan McGivern of Serenity Run Club for their leadership, support and commitment in helping make this event such a success.

Su***de remains the biggest killer of men under 50, yet too many continue to suffer in silence.

Events like this remind us of the power of sport, connection and community. Every conversation, every act of support and every pound raised helps us continue our work supporting those in crisis.

Thank you to everyone who played, volunteered, donated and showed up.

Community isn't just about being togetherβ€”it's about being there for one another when it matters most.

IF WE TREATED MARATHON RUNNERS THE WAY WE TREAT MENTAL HEALTH. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
The lies we have all been told… πŸ’œ

Think about the thousands who hit the streets of Belfast this week. Two days on, the reality has set in. Swollen feet. 🦡 Thrashed muscles. πŸ’ͺ Exhausted bodies. 😴

Nobody looks at a runner who can’t walk and says:

❌ "I know you have a stress fracture, but have you tried a scented candle?"
❌ "I see the bone is cracked, but on a scale of 1-10, how much does it actually hurt? Only a 7? Call us back when you’re crawling."
❌ "Still limping? Have you tried thinking more positively about your hamstrings? Maybe they just need a gratitude journal."
❌ "Sorry about the torn ligamentβ€”here is a leaflet on mindfulness. Just stay busy so you don't notice the pain."

We’d call that madness. Because it is. βœ…

When the body is pushed past its limit, we offer care, time, and medical expertise. No questions asked. So why, when a mind is pushed past its limit, do we still demand a "high enough" score to deserve help?

We’ve all shared the slogans. "It’s ok not to be ok." "Talk to someone." We gave people permission to struggleβ€”we just never gave them anywhere to go that was truly fit for purpose.

We told them to ask for help, then told them to wait. We handed them a leaflet. We sent them home because their agony didn't fit a checkbox on a number scale.

The Well is changing the map. πŸš€

No slogans. No leaflets. No sending people home to "hope for the best." Just innovation, belief, and a refusal to accept that a 1-10 scale is "good enough" for a human life.

Every person is different. Every recovery is different. And every life is worth more than a borrowed phrase. πŸ’œ

The Well refuses to stand still. πŸ’œ

πŸ“² Share thisβ€”someone on your feed is "running a marathon" no one can see.
🀝 Check on someone. Especially if they seem "fine."

It is only truly "ok not to be ok" when there is actually somewhere to turn.

πŸ’œπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ **THE DAY AFTER THE MARATHON**

Nobody tells a marathon runner to pull themselves together. 🚫
Nobody says, β€œYou were fine yesterday β€” what’s wrong with you today?” 🚫

We would never say that to someone physically broken. 🩹
So why do we still say it to someone mentally broken? πŸ§ πŸ’”

Yesterday, thousands crossed the finish line. πŸ…
It took legs, yes β€” but it also took mind, grit, pain, purpose and strength most people never see. 🦡🧠πŸ’ͺ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Today, we believe their pain without question. βœ…

We cannot see their sore muscles. πŸ‘οΈ
We cannot measure what yesterday cost them. πŸ“Š
But we believe them. Instantly. Without hesitation. πŸ’―

So why, when someone says their mind is broken, do they have to fight to be believed? πŸ€”
Why does invisible mean unreal? πŸ‘»

In sport, recovery is planned. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ§
Cold water. Rest. Nutrition. Support. Body and mind together. 🧊😴🍲🀝πŸ’ͺ❀️

But survive a suicidal crisis and too often people are handed a leaflet, put on a waiting list, scored on a number scale, and sent home if the number is not β€œhigh enough.” πŸ“„β³πŸ“‹

Imagine telling yesterday’s runners:
**β€œYour legs are not sore enough yet. Come back when it gets worse.”** ❌

We never would. 🚫

πŸ’” Surviving is not recovering.
πŸ’” The danger passing is not the same as the pain passing.
πŸ’” Someone you know may be carrying something nobody can see.

Believe them anyway. πŸ’œ

**The Well does.** πŸ’œ

The Well keeps searching. πŸ”
For better approaches. πŸ’‘
For innovative thinking. πŸš€
For the gold standard every single person in crisis deserves. πŸ…

πŸ’œπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ **THERE IS NO X-RAY FOR THE SOUL** πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’œ

Tonight, every marathon runner will recover differently.
🧊 Cold water.
🦡 Compression.
🍲 Food.
😴 Rest.
🀝 Support.
πŸ“‹ Personalised plans.
Because we understand that every body heals in its own way, in its own time.

Mental health recovery is no different. πŸ’œ
But there is no X-ray for the soul.
No image to hold up and say:
**β€œHere is where it hurts. Here is what it will take to heal.”**

We would not send someone home after a stroke and tell them to come back when it gets worse.
We would not ask someone having a heart attack to wait until there is space.
We would not look at a broken bone and say:
**β€œCome back when you really need us.”**
Yet every day, people in the depths of a mental health crisis are asked to do exactly that.
Not because people are cruel β€” but because mental health crisis still does not receive the same urgency as everything else we know we cannot afford to lose.

🚨 **Su***de is deadly.**
It does not wait.
And neither should the people trying to survive it.

πŸ’œ There is no X-ray for the soul.
But that does not mean we stop looking.

This is why grassroots services like matter.

This is why **Ciaran ran today**. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

And this is why the conversation cannot stop at the finish line. 🏁

πŸ’œπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ EVERY RUNNER IS DIFFERENT. SO IS EVERY BATTLE.
No coach would give 40,000 runners the same race plan.
Yet we still expect people in their darkest moment to fit into a system designed many years ago β€” by people who had never been in the dark.
The marathon has evolved. Shoes, nutrition, training, technology β€” everything changed because we listened, we learned, we adapted.
Su***de prevention hasn't had that revolution.
People are still dying waiting for it.
Today, Ciaran and Team Collins Aerospace are running through Belfast for The Well Su***de Prevention β€” because some things cannot wait many more years.
Please don't let them carry it alone.

πŸ’œπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ **9.15AM β€” THEY’RE OFF.**

Right now, runners have started the **Belfast City Marathon** β€” and we are sending every bit of strength, pride and gratitude to those running in support of
**The Well Su***de Prevention**.
Every step they take today means something.
They are running for lives lost too soon.
For families carrying pain.
For people still fighting silently.
For communities that need hope, support and someone to show up.

To **Ciaran**, **Team Collins Aerospace**, and every single person running, donating, sharing or cheering us on β€” thank you.
