2857 AGM Report 🚂

Our AGM was held last Saturday (17th October) at The Engine House, Highley. We are pleased to report that it was a resounding success, with members who attended being brought right up to date with 2857, some further donations towards the overhaul, and the appointment of our youngest Trustee!

Trustee Appointments
Paul Read and Leo Greenaway were appointed as Trustees, whilst Peter Share has stepped down in to an Honorary Assitant role. We thank Peter for his tireless efforts for over 30 years in ensuring the Society finances were secure and healthy. Paul and Leo are both very welcome additions to the Trustees, and we look forward to their contributions moving forward.

Finance
As has been reported previously we have reached our target of £285,000 to match the Riley & Son quote. We are now well on our way towards buildings a surplus, for unexpected costs, which currently stands at £25,000. We are looking to ensure this is a minimum of £75,000 but the reality is it needs to be as high as possible as we move forwards.

Overhaul
2857’s overhaul progresses well at Riley & Son. They have made a keen start on stripping the locomotive down, and we have begun to receive a flow of invoices. We are hoping to pay a visit to the works in the near future to view progress for ourselves.

A fantastic GCR Gala Sales Stand has just concluded hot on the heels of our record breaking SVR Autumn Gala sales. Just over £2500 has been raised for 2857 this weekend. A big thankyou to everyone who has contributed 😁

We now have just over £20,000 of surplus, against the quoted ammount from Riley and Son. We are looking to build a surplus of £75,000 and above to ensure we can complete the overhaul on time, and in a financially secure way 🚂

Would you like to become a 2857 Trustee? 🤔

The 2857 Society is seeking new Trustees to join its board, with 2 spaces currently being vacant. The Society is particularly seeking Trustees with secretarial and minute taking experience, but also seeks those with steam locomotive engineering experience.

With the engine currently under overhaul fundraising continues, as does thoughts of the future of the Society. New Trustees with ideas and willingness to help in this field are welcomed too!

The only requirement is for you to be a member of the Society 👍🏼

AUTUMN GALA IS A RECORD BREAKER!

Our 2857 Sales Stand raised just over £7,000 this weekend! Every single penny will go towards the ongoing overhaul of 2857, and we could not be more grateful to each and every one of you who made a contribution.

From the Chair - “I’d like to thank everyone who has assisted in making the Autumn Gala Sales Stand such a success. Every penny contributed is a step forward towards returning 2857 to traffic and the Trustees are delighted with the result. I’d also like to take a moment to recognise the valuable contribution of our Trustees, and Sales Stand volunteers, as without their considerable efforts we would not have been able to achieve such a result.”

Thankyou all ❤️
