When rearing orphaned wildlife, it is almost always vital that they have a ‘friend’ to grow up alongside.

They will play (and play-fight) with them; helping to develop their social skills, learn to hunt or forage together, and assist in grooming one another. This also assists in reducing their stress when being cared for in captivity.

So when we heard from our friends at Oxfordshire Wildlife Rescue to say they also had a lone polecat, it was the perfect opportunity for ours to have a friend!

The two polecats are in the process of being mingled so make sure you are following along for some utterly adorable pictures and videos of their interactions! Although the polecats will become solitary once they are older, this interaction will help them to develop the skills necessary for survival in the wild!

For now, here is a photos of our new arrival! (Photo credit to Oxfordshire wildlife rescue)

These two hoglets were found by one of our volunteers, Ebony.

Unsure exactly what had happened, the nest must have been disturbed by a predator as one of the pair had some nasty puncture wounds to his back.

Now safely in our care, these hoglets will be reared by our team, receiving plenty of delicious feeds to allow them to grow and develop!

If you are able to donate towards the care of these two little ones, please click here - https://www.justgiving.com/charity/leicestershirewildlifehospital

Patient number 1000 arrived into care on the 14th June - the exact date we admitted our thousandth patient last year!

This adult wood pigeon arrived after being found looking rather dishevelled, with a large amount of plumage lost and a large wound to his back. These injuries will be closely monitored by our team and the wood pigeon is receiving medication to assist with this.

2025 was our busiest year on record and it is looking like we are going to be hitting similar numbers of patients this year also! 🐦

Today, 3 of our team went along to the BBC Radio Leicester studios to record an interview for the BBC Make a Difference awards! 🎶

Mollie, Steve and Fiona (left to right on image) did a fantastic job of answering the questions and enjoyed the experience of chatting all about our work at the Leicestershire wildlife hospital!

This recording will play as part of the awards night in September which we are very much looking forward to 🎥

A stare as menacing as this could only mean one thing - our first little owl of the year!

This fledgling was being attacked by crows and was found to be left on the ground with wounds to his legs.

The finders were able to scoop him up and bring him over to our care where he will remain until he is old enough to take on the world once more!

Supporting injured wildlife would not be possible without your help. If you can, please donate today - https://www.justgiving.com/charity/leicestershirewildlifehospital

This juvenile peregrine arrived from the team that monitor the nesting pair at Leicester cathedral.

This peregrine, known as ‘4BB’, had fledged the nest too early on multiple occasions due to a male peregrine disturbing the nest. The team monitoring them returned her to the nest but it was becoming clear that she wasn’t going to settle there and so intervention had to take place.

4BB is now in our care being looked after by our team until she is ready for release back into the wild.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to those involved in monitoring the peregrine falcons - a very important project in our city centre!
