It’s been inspiring to see Friends Of Irth Community Garden grow into such a vibrant community space 💚

From the first grant support via our Grow Cook Eat programme, funded by Public Health North Northamptonshire, to the grand opening celebration, this project has shown the power of local action and long-term commitment 🌿

Spare bricks from people’s gardens. Donated plants. Sponsored daffodil bulbs. Bingo nights. And Chair Jamie Poole – a former teacher turned full-time artist who spotted the neglected plot nine years ago – who quietly kept believing in what it could become.

Congratulations to everyone involved – and thank you to Friends Of Irth Community Garden for leading such a great example of community growing in action.

Friends Of Irth Community Garden is a strong example of how green community spaces can support wellbeing, volunteering, food growing and social connection.

The project has created a welcoming place where local people can come together, share skills and build a stronger sense of community 🌿

💚A 96-year-old regular brings runner bean expertise.
💚Families come at weekends.
💚The Beavers and Guides have visited.
💚A new pergola went up the very weekend of the grand opening...and the garden is already supplying fresh produce to the local food bank.

It’s a brilliant reminder that relatively small investments can have long-lasting impact when they are rooted in local need and community energy.

We're thrilled to be working with Royal London to celebrate the creation of our brand new wildlife meadow and wildlife corridor...a wonderful step forward for local biodiversity and connecting our community with nature right here in Kettering. 🦋

Come and join us for a fantastic day packed with activities for all the family, including:

Nature-based activities
Food activities
Face painting
Pond dipping
Nature crafts
Wildlife and conservation..and much more!

From an overgrown plot to a welcoming green space, Friends Of Irth Community Garden is a brilliant example of community-led change in action💚

It’s been inspiring to see how local people in have come together to create a space for growing, learning, sharing and connecting.

A woman and her nephew who come every Saturday – he loves weeding, she keeps bringing plants. Families arriving at weekends. A walking group that passes through regularly. Older residents who come to garden and chat. The local Beavers and Guides. Everyone welcome, everyone contributing something different.

Our early investment through Grow Cook Eat, funded by Public Health North Northamptonshire, helped get things moving – but this success belongs to the community.

Well done to everyone involved, and thanks to Friends Of Irth Community Garden for leading the way. 💚

A neglected plot of land in has been transformed into a thriving community garden – and at the weekend, the town gathered to celebrate its grand opening 💚

We’re proud to have supported Friends Of Irth Community Garden at the start of their journey through our Grow Cook Eat programme, funded by Public Health North Northamptonshires 🌱

Spare bricks and paving slabs from people’s own homes. Armfuls of donated plants. Daffodil bulbs sponsored by local residents. Bingo nights. A £5,000 donation from the Methodist Church. A 96-year-old popping by with runner bean advice. And a community that just kept showing up, week after week.

The grand opening was a brilliant reminder of what can happen when communities are given the right support at the right time – and then trusted to run with it.

Congratulations to everyone involved 💚
