We're closing out Volunteers Week in one of our favourite places...

The final Big Thank You event from Aspire North Northants is happening at our very own The Green Patch on Thursday 4 June, 10am -12noon. 🌻

Garden tour, games, planting, maybe some Tai Chi, artwork and a guest speaker - all free for volunteers from North Northants VCSEs. We'd love to see you there 💚

Ever wondered what actually happens when a team of volunteers spends a day at The Green Patch or Twywell Hills and Dales Nature Reserve?

Quite a lot, as it turns out. Ponds get remodelled, bee gardens restored, meadows cleared, orchards maintained. Over the last three years, the trees and shrubs planted at our sites will sequester 178.80 tonnes of CO₂ – equivalent to the annual energy use of 66 average UK homes.

Local people rely on these spaces. The Green Patch in Kettering is used by schools, young people and community groups throughout the year. Twywell Hills & Dales is a nature reserve open to everyone. Corporate volunteering days help us keep them in good shape.

Big news for The Green Patch! 🌱

We're thrilled to share that The Green Patch has received National Lottery funding – and it's set to open a whole new chapter for this much-loved Kettering community garden.

The £280,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund will launch a range of new activities, from a nature-based after-school club to community forum sessions and more volunteer sessions. There will also be site improvements to increase biodiversity, alongside events and activities that give local people practical ideas to take home.

If you've never visited, now is the perfect time. The gate is open and everyone is welcome.

Want to do something good this spring?

Groundwork Northamptonshire manages this extraordinary 135-acre nature reserve on behalf of the community, and Ranger Luke Parker is now building something really exciting: a regular volunteer programme. Moulton College students have already been joining Luke for hands-on conservation work experience – and a dedicated weekly volunteer day is coming soon.

If your organisation is looking for meaningful team volunteering, or if you personally want to give some time to something that really matters, we'd love to hear from you. No experience necessary. No fixed commitment required.

Twywell Hills & Dales is part of Groundwork Northamptonshire's wider network of community green spaces, alongside The Green Patch and the Green Doctors. Together, we're making access to nature in our towns and villages something real and lasting.

Our Ranger Luke says it best: "Some people say they didn't see the butterflies 🦋– but it's just that people don't stop and take a moment to have a look."

Twywell Hills & Dales is one of those places that gives back the more time you give it. The open fields, the woodland, the wildflowers... there's always something to discover if you slow down long enough to look for it.

This spring, why not make it your mission to really explore it? Take a different path, sit somewhere quiet for five minutes, look at what's growing at your feet. The butterflies, the bees, the birds – they're all there. Sometimes you just need to pause.
