🌍💪🏾🇬🇧

African Youth Arise (AYA) is a Registered Charity (Number 1203755) that work with young people of African descent between the ages of 11-25 based in the East Midlands. However, AYA hope to grow and spread to the rest of the United Kingdom. The aim is to enrich and enhance the lives of young people in the UK through a variety of educational workshops. Our mission is the pursuit of excellence for yo

ung people, with an emphasis on instilling values such as respect, discipline and work ethic. We help prepare their participation as active citizens and members of a global community. To achieve this, our work involves facilitating their development of personal, social and civic responsibilities through dynamic and interactive activities. We organise activities to be delivered online, localised workshops and residential trips. We believe that, even in the face of stigma and struggles, our young people are here to RISE. Over the course of the past 9 years we have supported over 900 individuals in their transformation. By empowering young people to challenge negative stories and uncover their incredible innate resilience, we help unleash their powerful potential.

The results are in, and they speak volumes! 💯 100% of the parents who attended our Apprenticeship Workshop rated it as useful or extremely useful. 🏆

Our community walked away with practical clarity. Here is what some of our parent attendees highlighted as their biggest breakthroughs:

• "The different routes to apprenticeship and the application process" 🗺️
• "Online work experience is good to have even if you don't have physical experience" 💻
• "Take time to invest in yourself whilst you're still young" 🌱
• "Starting early has paid off" ⏱️

Thank you to all the parents investing time into their children’s futures. Early preparation makes all the difference! 🙌

One of the key insights shared during our Parents Workshop was how apprenticeship interviews are often very different from what young people expect.

Rather than focusing solely on qualifications or testing knowledge, many employers want to understand:
✨ How you think
✨ How you approach challenges
✨ Your attitude towards learning
✨ Who you are as a person

Our young person explained that interview questions were often based on real-life scenarios, giving candidates the opportunity to demonstrate problem-solving skills, personality, and potential.

This is an important reminder for parents supporting young people through applications: employers aren't looking for someone who knows everything already. They're looking for individuals who are willing to learn, grow, and contribute.

• 51% cite a Lack of Information as their biggest hurdle.
• 38% worry about Long-term career growth.

Young people thrive when communities show up for them 💛

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating every single person who has supported African Youth Arise and helped us empower young people to grow in confidence, build skills, and unlock new opportunities.

From mentoring and event support to simply giving your time and encouragement, every act of volunteering creates real impact. Because of you, more young people feel seen, supported, and inspired to step into their future with confidence.

Volunteering is more than helping others. It’s about building stronger communities, creating connections, and opening doors for the next generation.

To all our volunteers, supporters, and community champions, thank you for helping us Empower, Enhance & Enable young people across Northamptonshire.

📢 AYA May Highlights – Parents’ Series Workshop 📢

We are excited to bring you some highlights from one of the Parents’ Series workshops we delivered in May!

During the session, we asked parents about the pathways they are encouraging their children to pursue. The responses revealed some encouraging insights into how families are thinking about the future:

📊 53% highlighted Apprenticeships as their preferred pathway.

📊 30% are encouraging their children to explore a range of options.

📊 14% are leaning towards the traditional University route.

📊 2% remain unsure.

It is inspiring to see so many parents recognising the value of diverse career pathways and actively engaging in conversations about their children’s futures. Apprenticeships, higher education, entrepreneurship, and vocational routes all have an important role to play in helping young people achieve their ambitions.

A huge thank you to all the parents who participated and contributed to these important discussions. Special recognition goes to Rumbi and Salome Ru, who did a fantastic job facilitating the session and ensuring that parents received the information, guidance, and support they needed to make informed decisions about their children’s future pathways.

Together, we are helping to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Giving young people a real say in their space 🎨

With Marvin Mudzongo from Lemonpop Workshops

Recently, our young people took part in a mural consultation for a local family hub in Kettering, sharing their ideas on what they’d like to see in a new youth space.

From colours and themes to the overall vibe, this was about more than just art…

It was about being heard, feeling included, and shaping something that represents them.

Too often, spaces are created for young people without their input.

This time, they were part of the process from the start.

We can’t wait to see their ideas come to life 👀

Today we celebrate. 🌍✊🏾
Happy Africa Day to every young person who carries the continent in their name, their culture, their cooking, their music, and their spirit, whether you were born there or not.
Africa is not just a place. It's a legacy. And it lives in you.
Here are a few things worth celebrating today:
🌍 Over 1.4 billion people. 54 countries. 2,000+ languages.
🎶 The music the whole world borrows from, Afrobeats, Amapiano, Highlife, and more.
👑 Kingdoms, scientists, architects, and leaders that shaped human history long before it was written in our textbooks.
💛 A diaspora, including right here in the UK, that continues to build, create, and inspire every single day.
To our young people at AYA, this is part of your story. Be proud of it. Wear it loud. 🔥
Happy Africa Day. 🌍
