💜 Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month 💜

This month, we're helping to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers and the importance of knowing the signs and symptoms.

Gynaecological cancers include:
✔ Ovarian cancer
✔ Cervical cancer
✔ Womb (uterine/endometrial) cancer
✔ Vulval cancer
✔ Vaginal cancer

Many symptoms can be easy to overlook, but it's important to know what is normal for your body and seek medical advice if something doesn't feel right.

Symptoms may include:
🔹 Unusual vaginal bleeding
🔹 Persistent bloating
🔹 Pelvic or abdominal pain
🔹 Changes in bladder or bowel habits
🔹 Unexplained weight loss
🔹 Persistent itching, soreness, or changes in the vulval area

While these symptoms can have many causes, it is always worth getting them checked by your GP.

Early diagnosis can make a significant difference.

If you or a loved one have been affected by gynaecological cancer, remember that support is available. The Macmillan Centre can provide information, emotional support, and signposting to services that can help.

💚 You don't have to face cancer alone.

✉️ World Letter Writing Day ✉️

When was the last time you wrote a letter?

A simple letter, card, or note can make a huge difference to someone living with cancer. It can provide comfort, reduce feelings of isolation, and remind someone that they are not alone. 💚

The charity From Me to You is dedicated to inspiring people to write letters to those affected by cancer. Through their programmes, donated letters are shared with cancer patients across the UK, bringing kindness, connection, and hope when it is needed most.

Why not take a few minutes today to:
💌 Write to a friend or family member affected by cancer
💌 Send a card to let someone know you're thinking of them
💌 Donate a letter through the From Me to You programme

As the charity says, something as simple as receiving a letter can change someone's day and help them feel connected during a difficult time.

💬 QUESTION OF THE MONTH – WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 💬

We’re introducing a brand-new Question of the Month at the Macmillan Information Centre starting from September

Each month, we’ll ask a different question to help us capture your feedback, hear your thoughts and understand what matters most to you.

📝 How can you take part?

📮 In the Centre: Answer the question anonymously using one of our postcards and pop it in the feedback box.

💻 Online: Complete the question anonymously using the link provided.

There’s no need to include your name or any personal details – we simply want to hear your honest thoughts and experiences.

Your feedback helps us understand what we’re doing well and where we can make improvements. Every response matters and your voice can help shape the Centre for everyone.

Keep an eye out for our new question each month!

A Patient’s Story Through Poetry 💜

With his kind permission, we’re honoured to share a collection of poems written by a KGH patient about his experience of cancer and the care and support he received at KGH.

Through his words, he shares some of the emotions, challenges and experiences of his cancer journey, offering a very personal reflection on what it is like to go through treatment.

A special thank you also goes to one of our wonderful chemotherapy nurses Elza, who brought the poems to life with her beautiful illustrations. 🎨

We’re incredibly grateful to both of them for allowing us to share this work
