Cumbria Police received a call from a young walker who had lost the past descending Skiddaw. He had found himself on rough and steep ground. A small team assembled and helped him onto easier terrain and off the hill.

A couple had become lost and benighted whilst descending Scafell Pike. Wasdale MRT were initially alerted and, despite poor communications, were able to establish the pair were in the Styhead area. Being in Keswick MRT’s patch, the incident was transferred. A small team made their way to locate the couple and walk them back to their vehicle.

While the team was already out heading to another incident, a priority call came in regarding a climber who had fallen approximately 3 metres on Troutdale Pinnacle. The climber had ended up upside down, sustaining a badly broken arm and a possible concussion. The team immediately diverted to this urgent shout, while Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team deployed to take over the original incident.

By the time the rescue team arrived at Black Crag, the casualty had already been safely lowered to the bottom of the crag by an adjacent climbing party. Team members provided advanced analgesia, splinted the broken arm, and stretchered the casualty down to an awaiting ambulance. We wish them a full and speedy recovery, and extend our sincere thanks to the passing climbers who assisted with the initial lowering.

The team was deployed to assist a young boy who had suffered an over-the-handlebar fall while mountain biking. He landed on a tree stump, sustaining chest injuries in the process. Team members attended the scene and provided immediate medical treatment before packaging the casualty for transport to a waiting ambulance, which then conveyed him to the hospital. We would like to extend our thanks to the Whinlatter forestry staff for their assistance during the rescue.

The team was deployed to assist a woman who had slipped on wet grass and gone over on her ankle. Despite their best efforts to self-rescue, the casualty and her friends struggled to make progress down the terrain and requested mountain rescue assistance. Team members attended the scene, assessed the injury, and applied a splint to her leg. The casualty was then loaded into a rescue stretcher and carried back down to a friend’s vehicle for onward transport to the hospital.

As team members were handing over the casualty from the previous Shepherd’s Crag incident to the ambulance crew, a second emergency call came in. A walker had tripped on a rocky path, falling forward and sustaining a severe cut to their head that was bleeding profusely. Available team members redeployed straight to the casualty’s location, where they were met by the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) Helimed crew who attended and treated the casualty. Following the medical assessment and treatment, the individual was driven down off the fell and to an ambulance at Seatoller. We wish the casualty a very speedy recovery.

The team was deployed following a report from an informant that a climber had accidentally abseiled off the end of their rope at Shepherd’s Crag. The casualty hit the ground and tumbled approximately 5 metres down the terrain, sustaining a concussion. Team members arrived on scene alongside the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) Helimed crew and a North West Ambulance Service land ambulance. After a medical assessment, the climber was packaged into a rescue stretcher and carried by the team to the waiting land ambulance.

The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community.

Teddy had been missing since 2nd August after disappearing on Helvellyn. Nearly three weeks later, there was finally some fantastic news when one of the volunteers searching for him heard barking coming from Dry Gill. They managed to locate Teddy, alive but stuck in the gill, and due to the dangerous location, the team were called to help bring him to safety.

The team attended and reached Teddy, who thankfully had no obvious injuries, although after nearly three weeks on the fell, he had understandably lost a considerable amount of weight. He was given a small amount of food before being safely secured in a rucksack for the journey back down to Swirls car park.

Around three and a half hours after the callout began, the team met Teddy’s owner and the original informant at Swirls, where Teddy was handed back to his very relieved owner for onward travel to the vets.

A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn, and a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy. 🐾

A walker on the lakeshore slipped and injured her ankle, around about the time of the solar eclipse. A rescue boat from Derwentwater Marina was used to get to the casualty, at Myrtle Bay, where she was treated before being loaded aboard. She was taken back to the Marina where her husband transported her to hospital for further checks.

A man on a walk/run from Grasmere to Keswick slipped and injured his ankle whilst descending Greenup Ghyll above Stonethwaite. Unable to weight bear he called for help. Keswick team on arrival provided pain relief and strapped the ankle before undertaking a sweaty stretcher carry down to the team vehicles. He was given a lift to Theatre by the Lake, next to the Keswick MRT base, where his partner was performing in Calendar Girls. A very good show by all accounts.
